Ramone waited until the massive child drifted off to sleep. He then very carefully got out of bed and walked toward the door. He stopped in the doorway, looking back at Jake.
He was resting quietly, a small snore escaping his nose every few seconds or so. "This would be the perfect time to escape," Ramone thought to himself. "I could walk to the shore, fix up my canoe and be gone by sunrise."
"But,then again," he continued. "Jake is all alone here. He's been without human contact for two whole years. He needs a father figure. I guess, for now, that has to be me. Besides, he saved my life. I owe him that much, at least."
Ramone walked into the guest bedroom, lying down on the humongous bed and eventually fell asleep.
**********************************
He was awoken the next morning by Jake, who had walked into the bedroom and picked Ramone up by one of his legs, suspending him upside down.
"Good morning, Ramone," Jake greeted his guest, smiling, as he brought his smaller body up to Jake's much larger face.
"Good morning, Jake," the teen responded groggily, as he rubbed his eyes, adjusting to the sunlight streaming in. "Mind telling me why I'm hanging upside down?"
"Just wanted to tell you that breakfast is ready." He placed Ramone back down on the bed, perhaps a bit too hard. Jake had already left the room by the time Ramone rolled over, leaving him alone in the bedroom. He rubbed his eyes for a moment, then got up and walked into the kitchen.
When he got there, Jake already had the food out. There was a big pile of fish on one plate, a pile of fruit on another and something that looked like bread in another plate. Also, there was a pitcher of what appeared to be freshly squeezed orange juice on the table.
As Ramone sat down, Jake grabbed a big handful of fish and popped them into his mouth. The teen was handed a plate and grabbed a few fish, chewing small bites. He watched as Jake reached for the fruit, taking about half of the pile and ate them in one gulp.
"So, how did you get this food, Jake?" Ramone asked, taking another bite of his food.
"I hunt for fish every morning, plus I have a garden not far from here, where I grow the fruit." He poured some of the OJ out into a large glass and took a few sips, as he reached for the bread.
"And sometimes, I'll hunt for an animal, but it takes a lot of them to satisfy me. Plus, there are more fish around here than wild animals."
Ramone nodded, as he reached for the fruit and bread.
"With a body this big, it takes a lot of food to keep me full," Jake added.
"You know," the teen said. "This is probably all that I can eat, so you can have the rest."
"Oh, thanks," the child replied, as he grabbed the fish plate and stuffed the rest into his mouth. He followed that by finishing off the fruit, then eating the rest of the bread.
Ramone watched the young boy eat his food in amazement.
"So, do we have any plans for today?"
"Well," Jake replied, swallowing the food in his mouth. "I have to pull up more fruit and maybe catch a few animals for lunch. I could show you around the island, too."
"That'd be nice," Ramone replied, finishing off his breakfast.
"You ready to go?" the young boy asked, standing up.
"Yeah."
What do they do?
