His mother's image appeared on the screen, her warm eyes and kind smile beautifully captured in the digital avatar. He pressed 'OK' and selected the 'Mind Set' option.
A new screen appeared, displaying a mind-map of his mother's thoughts. The layout was akin to a neural network, with different sections connected by lines, each labeled with various emotions, responsibilities, and memories.
Ian was taken aback by the intricacy of the interface, the complex network of his mother's mind. He saw nodes representing her concerns about household chores, her worries about Ian and his siblings, her love for their father, her work-related stress, and even her hidden desire to take a break from all her responsibilities.
As Ian navigated through the interface, he found a node labeled 'Neatness.' He clicked on it and was flooded with a slew of memories and feelings. He saw his mother's childhood home, always tidy and clean. He saw how her mother, his grandmother, instilled in her the importance of cleanliness. He saw the comfort and control she derived from maintaining a neat home. The memories were vivid, the emotions raw, and Ian felt a newfound empathy for his mother.
Encouraged, he moved on to the 'Strict' node. The memories here were more complex. He saw his mother's fears about him not taking his responsibilities seriously, her concern about his future, and her internal struggle to balance her love for him with the need to push him towards growth. It was an enlightening experience for Ian, understanding the rationale behind his mother's stern demeanor.
Feeling adventurous, Ian decided to experiment with the command feature. He typed in a new command, 'Relax.' He watched as the command integrated itself into his mother's mind map.
Moments later, he heard footsteps descending the stairs. His mother appeared in the living room, a serene smile on her face. She glanced at the cluttered coffee table, usually a source of her frustration, and simply shrugged.
"Why don't we order some pizza for dinner, Ian?" she suggested, her tone unusually relaxed. Ian blinked, surprised but pleased with the change.
"Sure, Mom. Sounds great!" he replied, his eyes flickering back to the DS. The game had proved itself to be a powerful tool, allowing him to step into a mind other than his own. The possibilities were endless, and Ian found himself ready to explore further. He continues with:
