Liam sat cross-legged on his bed, scrolling through social media as photos of his friends’ previous European adventures popped up on his feed. They were planning a trip to celebrate the end of summer before their final year of high school, and he could hardly contain his excitement. Paris, Rome, Berlin—his friends had talked about it endlessly since last year. It was supposed to be the trip of a lifetime.
But just as he was about to leave for the trip his mom has crossed his plans by making him a woman…
He hesitated, his mind racing. While part of him was absolutely horrified by the situation, another part of him was intrigued. Traveling as a girl? It would definitely add a different dynamic to everything. No one would expect Liam, the troublemaker, to return transformed. But could he really make that choice?
“What if I don’t want to?” he challenged, crossing his arms defiantly.
“Then you’ll spend your summer sulking at home, bearing the consequences of your rudeness,” his mother said matter-of-factly. “And just so you know, this change is permanent for the duration of your trip. You can return to your old self once you come back home. But until then, this is who you are.”
Liam huffed, hands on his hips. “This is ridiculous!”
“Maybe so, but you’re now a young woman who must navigate a world that, until now, you’ve only observed from the outside. It’s time for empathy, Liam. Think of your trip as an adventure, a chance to experience life in a whole new way.”
With that, she turned away, leaving him alone in his transformed state. He stood there in shock, feeling an unfamiliar weight in his chest. He was on the precipice of a monumental decision, and a flood of emotions rushed over him.
