Madison Fitzpatrick was rudely jolted from her sleep by the sound of her cell phone ringing. Opening her eyes, she saw that it was only 7:15 in the morning; she wondered who could possibly be calling her so early.
Groggily sitting up in bed, she grabbed her phone and saw that it was her boyfriend Brian. Still half asleep, she answered the phone and said, "Good morning, soon to be ex-boyfriend."
"Morning, Maddie." Chuckling, Brian said, "That greeting's getting a little old; you should think of something new to say."
"I wouldn't have to say anything if my boyfriend was smart enough not to call at 7:15 in the morning on a Saturday."
"Yeah well; this is important and couldn't wait." Pausing, Brian said, "Derek was over last night; he was wondering if Savannah would be interested in going to Prom with him."
Derek was Brian's cousin; he lived about 45 minutes away and attended a private school. "I don't know; I'll have to ask her."
"Take your time; it's not for another 2 weeks." Pausing, Brian said, "I know Savannah's pretty busy most of the time; but Derek really likes her and wants to take her to prom."
"I'll call her and ask." Sighing, Madison said, "Now hang up so I can go back to sleep."
After ending the call with Brian, Madison lay back down to try and fall back to sleep; but that soon proved to be impossible. Madison already knew what Savannah's answer was going to be; because Savannah was actually her younger brother Andrew.
Madison had been scrounging through the attic a few years ago; shortly after their father returned to take care of them when their mother abandoned them. She hadn't found much except for old scrap books with photos of her as a baby; until she came across an old medallion that was wrapped inside a zip-lock bag.
She'd found out about its powers purely by accident; when she accidently brushed up against a little league outfit that had been Andrews as a kid. She'd panicked when she turned into a 7 year old version of Andrew; praying that she wasn't stuck this way.
Not long after that incident, Madison decided to have some fun with Andrew by turning him into a 13-month old version of herself; something which she regretted the moment she had to change Andrew's diaper. After this no one used the medallion for a while; keeping it a secret from their father because they were worried he'd throw it away.
Almost 2 year had gone by before the medallion was used again; Brian and Madison had just started to date when he asked if she knew of anyone for Derek. With all of her girlfriends out of town or busy, she had to convince her brother to become a girl for the evening. Despite Andrew's best intentions, Derek was immediately taken with Savannah.
Getting out of bed, knowing she wasn't going to get any sleep, she walked out of her room and across the hall to Andrew's. Knowing that he was awake, she walked inside to find him playing video games as he usually did on a rainy Saturday morning. Looking up from the screen, he said, "Morning sis; what's up?"
"Good morning, Andy," letting out a sigh, Madison said, "You're probably not going to like this; but I...have a favor to ask of Savannah."
"O-Oh no; I'm not using that medallion again." Dropping his controller, Andrew said, "The last time I was Savannah; I had to keep a drunken college kid from taking advantage of me."
"You still haven't let that go; have you?" sighing, Madison said, "I said I was sorry; I never should've asked you to come to that party with me."
Looking at his sister, Andrew said, "What's this favor you have for...me."
"Brian just called; Derek wants to take Savannah to his senior prom in 2 weeks."
"You're joking, right?" with a chuckle, Andrew said, "I'm not using that medallion to become Derek's prom date."
"It's not that big of a deal; I don't see why you won't do it."
"Because I don't want my first prom to be as some guy's prom date; I want mine to be with some attractive girl."
Madison started to pace back and forth across Andrew's floor; wondering if there was any way to persuade Andrew to do the favor for Derek. After a moment, she stopped and said, "I'll tell you what; if you do this one thing for Derek then I'll set you up with Corinne." Chuckling, Madison said, "She's been bugging me for months to hook you two up; she's got a huge crush on you."
Corinne was Madison's best friend and co-captain of the school's swim team; someone whom Andrew had a crush on for a while but didn't have the courage to ask her out. Taking a deep breath, Andrew said, "Fine, I'll do it."
"Great!" smiling, Madison said, "I'll tell Brian the good news; then we'll go out and buy your prom dress."
"Why so soon?" confused, Andrew said, "Prom isn't for another couple weeks."
"For someone who's spent so much time as a girl; you still know nothing about us." Giggling, Madison said, "It's already the last minute; so there's not much selection left."
"Okay fine; let's get it over with."   indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
