This choice: A few hours into the party • Go Back...Chapter #6cousin 'Ava' joins the party by: tasteey   Tim took a deep breath and walked towards the pool party. The pool was only 30 feet away from the house. In his normal 28 year old male body, it would have only taken a few normal adult steps. But in Cousin Ava’s 4 year old body it seemed like an endless journey. Tim felt self conscious about wearing the swim floaties on his arms. However, after looking down at the one piece pink swimsuit with a tutu attached, Tim realized he looked like any normal 4 year old girl.
Just as Tim entered the pool, all the girls screamed excitedly and headed towards ‘Ava.’ Tim was impressed with the sudden popularity of being the new girl at the party. The birthday girl, Allison was the first to run up and greet her cousin, “OMG! Ava is awake from her nap! Come on everybody! Come meet my cousin Ava!”
Tim felt like a doll as the group of 7 year old girls came up and hugged him. They all commented on how cute her swimsuit was. Tim was excited to finally hang out with his own daughter, Jillian. Tim was curious how she acted with her friends and finally had the perfect disguise to blend in. However, soon the novelty wore off of being the younger cute cousin. The 7 year old girls quickly forgot about the 4 year cousin and started swimming in the deep end.
Tim was left alone in the shallow end of the pool and was forced to watch the rest of the girls having fun. Tim was especially mad as his best friend Ken for leaving him alone. Ken had used the magic medallion to become the older cousin, Annabelle. After a few minutes, ‘Annabelle’ swam back to the shallow end and whispered, “Sorry sis! I didn’t mean leave you hanging all alone back here!
Tim looked at his best friend with an unimpressed glare, “It’s about time one of you noticed I was all alone. This isn’t very exciting!”
Ken leaned in close and said, “Relax buddy. YOU of all people should know how 7 year old girls can be! One of them gets an idea and they all quickly run off.”
Tim thought about how his own daughter Jillian always acted and knew Ken was right. “That’s easy for you to say. You are currently the same age as the rest of the girls. You can easily keep up with them! Ava’s 4 year old body isn’t as agile!”
Ken nodded and thought for a moment, “Hmmm...You are right. You should go inside and tell ‘Aunt Miranda’ that we are done swimming and are ready for the second part of the party. That will include you more, I promise.”
Tim figured anything was better than swimming alone in the shallow end. Moment later, Tim met Miranda inside the house. He crossed his arms and looked up, “Being 4 sucks. Allison and her friends aren’t paying any attention to me. Even my own daughter Jillian isn’t hanging out with me! You gotta do something Miranda! ”
Miranda made sure nobody else could hear and quickly corrected Tim, “You mean AUNT Miranda!”
Tim shook his head and appeased Miranda by snapping back into character. “Sorry about that AUNT Miranda. Ken….I mean ‘Annabelle’ mentioned something about the second part of the party being more exciting for me?”
Miranda nodded with a giggle, “Of course sweetie. I’ll help you get dressed. Once the other girls see how pretty you look they will quickly join you.”
Tim somehow was intrigued at the thought of being included in the party. He followed Miranda into the bedroom and she pulled out a yellow Disney princess dress from Ava’s suitcase. Tim recognized it as Belle’s dress from Beauty and the Beast. She looked down at Tim and smiled, “You are going to look adorable in this! Like I said before, once the rest of the girls see you all dressed up they will want to get out of the pool and join in!”
Tim eagerly slid off Ava’s swimsuit and put his arms up. Miranda dropped the dress over his shoulders and zipped it up. She tied the bow around the back and smiled, “Take a look!”
Tim ran to the mirror. He couldn’t believe how strange the situation was. A few hours ago he was looking forward to using the magic medallion to become a golf pro and finally win against Ken. But after agreeing to fill in as cousin ‘Ava’ at Allison’s birthday party, Tim’s Saturday was ending up much different than planned. After seeing how cute Ava’s reflection looked in the mirror wearing the princess dress, Tim couldn’t help but reminisce about his own daughter, Jillian. Jillian had always loved dressing up and Tim finally was able to share the excitement of looking pretty in a gown. Tim swayed the dress back and forth and twirled the dress around.
Miranda let Tim have his fun for a few moments and finally interrupted with a fake throat clearing and laughed, “Ahem…”
Tim stood straight up and turned red, “Uh…I was just…Uh….”
Miranda jumped in, “Relax sweetie. I know suddenly turning into a 4 year old girl has some mental changes that come with it. Don’t feel bad about feeling pretty in a princess dress. All normal girls your age love wearing them.”
Tim seemed slightly relieved as Miranda continued, “Go ahead and take a walk outside by the pool in your pretty dress. Trust me, the rest of the girls will be jealous and want to put their dress-up gowns on too. That’s the 2nd part of the party Annabelle was referring to.”
Tim confidently walked outside. He was sick of being ignored as a 4 year old and couldn’t wait for the rest of the girls to get out of the pool and finally include ‘Ava’ in the party.
