This choice: "We're going to do something different this year" • Go Back...Chapter #8"We're going to do something different ... by: frost_kitty "Now, I've just explained how we usually do things," Austin's Aunt Jill continued. "But we're going to try something a little different this year," she said. "Rather than everybody switching bodies, we're going to have everybody become the same person!" Hushed voices whispered through the crowd.
"Even the kids?" A voice from the crowd yelled.
"Even the kids." Aunt Jill said with a grin. "There are lots of advantages to having everyone in the same body." she continued to explain. "The sleeping arrangements won't matter as much, physical competitions will be totally equal, and we can all share clothes!"
The crowd continued to discuss what this would mean for everybody until Jill brandished a present above her head, regaining their attention.
"Now, I'm sure you're all eager to know which body we'll all be ending up as. Well, it's time to find out!"
As Jill tore off the wrapping paper, Hailey's stomach did a flip. She recognized the present because it was the one she brought. She couldn't believe that everyone in Austin's family would soon becoming a copy of her!
Sure enough Jill opened the box and raised Hailey's pajamas high above her head. "We're all going to be Hailey!" she exclaimed. Most of the crowd turned their heads towards Hailey and Austin. Hailey could tell they were sizing her up, already thinking about what it would be like to be in her body. Most everybody had a smile on. She saw a mom explain something to her young son and then point at Hailey. Hailey gave a nervous wave as the boy looked at her. He then made a disgusted face and stuck out his tongue. "I guess not everyone would be happy to be in my body," she thought to herself.
"Now since I'm sure Hailey didn't bring enough outfits for all of us, you'll all have to be creative. Use your own clothes or borrow someone elses. Have fun with it!" Jill instructed.
Feeling slightly overwhelmed, Hailey turned to Austin "Can I talk to you in private for a minute?" she said.
"Sure," Austin said, leading her to an adjacent room. As he closed the door, he noticed that his family had already started lining up outside the bathroom to use the medallion. "What's up?" he asked, turning to face her.
"What's up!?" she asked indignantly. "Seriously?! Your whole family is about to become ME and you're asking me what's up?"
"Sorry!" Austin said trying to calm her down. "I should have given you a heads up before taking you here."
"If you'd have told me this would happen, I wouldn't have come." she grumbled, folding her arms.
"Oh come on," Austin said. "Just give it a chance. It's not going to be as bad as you think."
"Your dad is going to be me," she retorted, "Your grandpa is going to be me! How is that not as bad as I think?"
"You just need to look at the positives," Austin explained. "You're new to the family, this is a chance for them to get to know you. By the time we get engaged, they're already going to love you!"
Hailey perked up, "Engaged?"
A smile crept across Austin's face as he pretended to ignore her, "And just think about tomorrow when YOU get to become someone different. Maybe everybody will be in my body?"
"Ohh, or maybe your cousin's hot husband?" Hailey said, cheering up.
"See, that's the spirit!" Austin said, giving her a hug.
The two chatted for a little longer until Hailey was feeling better. Then they took a breath and went back to see the family. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
