"This way's no good either," Kelos called out, as he and Princess Fia turned a corner to find yet another corridor filled with wraiths.
"Try going left instead," Fia said. "It should lead to a servant's staircase that will take us to the kitchen!" The two of them ran as quickly as they could, attempting to reach Marlin's lab, only to find wraiths blocking their path at nearly every turn, the wraiths using their superior speed and ability to pass through walls to outmaneuver their fleeing prey.
"Got it," Kelos replied. "Looks clear!" They quickly made their way to the staircase.
"Where did they all come from?!" Fia asked as they entered the stairs and began descending to the kitchen several floors below.
"Some of them were probably servants and guards," Kelos said. "The rest, it's what happens to the souls of the women whose bodies the necromancer steals."
"She steals their bodies and turns them into those ghosts?" Fia asked. "Charming... Why haven't they attacked us since their first time though?"
"They wanted to ambush us, weaken you and kill me," Kelos explained. "Now the plan's changed. They're trying to herd us. If it wasn't for you, we'd have already been cornered."
"How lovely," Fia said sarcastically. The two of them left the stairwell and emerged into the kitchen. The bodies of several cooks were on the floor, the meals they were working on left unfinished, with a pot bubbling over on the stove. "Let me guess, they became wraiths."
"Yeah, probably," Kelos replied. "It's a shame, but we need to keep moving. Which way now?"
"Oh, you'll find that your little flight is already at an end," a creepy woman's voice said, as a figure dressed in a black cloak entered the room from a doorway on the right. more wraiths blocked all the exits, trapping the pair. Kelos stepped in between Fia and this new threat.
"Finally showing yourself, witch?" Kelos asked defiantly. He held his dagger ready to strike.
"Oh, I had heard you were a fool, Kelos, but I had no idea you were this much of one," the necromancer said. "Stand aside and give the princess to me, and I'll let you live. If you prove entertaining enough, I might even let you marry me. You'll get your princess' body that way."
"Never!" Kelos shouted.
"Foolish to the last I see," the Necromancer replied. "But it's not really your choice, now is it?" She looked at Fia. "Well, Princess? Will you give yourself to me? I'll spare the life of this fool and everyone left in this castle."
