1-12 inches

"I know, but how much?"
"by random increments, between 1-12 inches."
"That means it's random, right?" Sean said.
"Shrink, shrink, shrink!" the doctor said for amusement. Sean suddenly felt himself shrink!
First, he lost 3 inches, then 6 inches, and finally, 2 inches.
"It works!" Sean said. "Grow, grow, grow!" The doctor said.
And Sean grew back to six feet in height.
"Perfect!" the doctor said.
