Chapter #6

?????

    by: Unknown
Solomon shook his head as his body literally jumped from the tremors. He groaned internally as the giant and his little passenger headed for the hills, watching as around him everyone seemed to erupt in chaos.

This was going to be a wild ride.

The man had watched Gretta's kid climb onto his friend's palm, and almost envied his bravery when the time came. Almost.

But he had a mission. He was supposed to keep this neighborhood safe, and instead of doing that he let a middle school boy get kidnapped by a giant, never to return again.

How would the neighborhood association react to his cowardice?

Doesn't matter. He thought to himself. As long as he returned with the boy safe and the giant slain, everything would be alright. He would jump in his car, trail them from a distance, then when the gargantuan teen least suspected it, he would snatch the teenager back and rush him home. The authorities would be called, the giant would be contained, and everything would be alright.

The seventeen year old's thoughts got interrupted when he got slapped on the back.

"What's up with you?" The owner of the hand asked, her voice silky.

Solomon rolled his eyes, "Shut up Leila."

The newly dubbed Leila giggled as she slipped in front of him. "You take this too seriously," she teased, her hand on his shoulder.

Solomon groaned, a smile betraying his feelings as he quipped, "And you don't take this seriously enough."

The pixie cut blonde scoffed, "Hey! I take this seriously...enough."

Solomon's grin widened as she hesitated, "Seriously enough to watch Netflix while a literal giant is roaming around?" He asked.

Leila deadpanned, "Nothing's getting between me and Avatar: The Last Airbender. "

Solomon just nodded. The two made their way to a sky blue Sudan parked haphazardly in one of the driveways. Leila tossed the keys to Solomon, who missed horribly as the teenage girl slipped into the passenger's side.

Solomon grimaced as he fetched the keys on the pavement. "Y'know, sometimes I hate you," he remarked, to which Leila just shrugged as she closed the car door on her side.

The boy opened the driver's side of the car and pushed his way in before closing it behind him. As he adjusted his seat back, Leila grinned at him.

"Love you too."

He smiled at the comment as he put the keys in the ignition and pressed on the break to start up the car. Leila watched as he adjusted his mirrors, and giggled to herself before he glared at her.

"What?" He asked, adjusting his side view mirrors.

"Shouldn't you have done that before starting up the car, homeowner's boy?"

He reddened, and looked off to the side as he muttered, "I just think it's better."

Leila patted him on the shoulder. "It's okay. I'm sure your boyfriend won't mind your forgetfulness."

Solomon grimaced, "I'm not gay," he said flatly.

Leila rolled her eyes as she looked to the passenger's window. "Sure you aren't..."

As Solomon backed out of the driveway and swerved in the direction of the woods, he missed the small smirk that laid on his friend's features as she gazed at the open road.

If only they knew.
