"Help! Help! There's... there's too much chocolate!"
Now that was a mysterious call for help, all right. Kara's ears pricked up. It was still hard for her to pick out individual sentences sometimes out of the constant thunderous din...she usually just had to tune them all out. But ever since Siobhan had introduced her to the strange brown earth mineral "chocolate", she'd been in love. It must be the most delicious substance in the universe! How could anyone ever have too much of it?
It was a mystery, all right, and it's one that Kara intended to solve. She banked right, headed for the outskirts of the city, and swooped low over a crowd of people gather in a large, open area filled with strange smells and odd, colorful machines. Metropolis County Fair, read a banner near the entrance.
"What's going on?" she asked. "Is someone in danger?"
A boy clutching a huge stuffed Gorilla Grodd plushie in one arm pointed with the other. Supergirl turned to see what looked like a castle made out of brown clay. She looked closer. No--not clay. Ice cream. Another wonderful Earth substance. And by the look of it, chocolate ice cream.
"You can go on a tour," the boy said, "but I think it melted or something and there's people trapped in there--"
Supergirl launched herself into action, trying to activate her x-ray vision. Hold on--almost got--there we go! Sure enough, five people were trapped near the edge of the structure, with the walls oozing in on them. Eventually, a way to the outside would open, but they would be buried under ice cream before that happened--she had to get them out of there, now.
And then a wicked little thought struck her.
She'd always been kind of curious about how much she could eat now. She didn't need to eat at all anymore, or breathe, or sleep unless she really wore herself out. She didn't seem to have many physical limits at all. She could probably eat anything she wanted, but you had to exchange paper for food on this planet, and she was a little short on paper, so she'd never really tried. Well, what better chance than now? That ice cream castle was coming down anyway, and it's not like she'd get in trouble for eating it if she saved lives in the process.
At lightning speed, she whipped through the castle, burying herself in the walls and burrowing through, slurping down the delicious frozen dairy goodness by the gallon. It took her less than five seconds to gulp down the entire structure, countless tons of ice cream. She touched down next to the shocked, suddenly-freed tourists.
"Mmm," she said, licking her lips and patting her belly. She was pleasantly stuffed--that had taken less than a millisecond, at the rate she was going--but after a certain point, she just stopped feeling fuller. Her stomach was a little distended, but nothing to reflect the amazing amount of internal pressure it must be under.
She'd downed the castle so fast most people hadn't even seen what happened. As world spread, the crowed burst into applause, claps, and cheers.
"Thanks, Supergirl!" one of the tourists said, wiping a little sweat off of his brow. "Gee whiz, you're amazing!"
"Wish I could eat like that and look like you!" his wife added.
Kara smiled stickily.
