For what the man knows, there are others who might wear something cool to impress and gain the attention of future friends and followers, so choosing to be regular and casual in appearance might prove to be humiliating. However, it could still be worth trying to go out and not be like the others. Hell, he or someone else could make his costumes if he could and just go there just for fun. It might not even matter if everyone is different than him. All that matters is enjoying the time and having a fun experience.
