A fantasy costume

"Young man, I'd wager you're looking for a fantasy costume, are you not? Something from a world not our own—a world of magic, swordplay and high adventure!"

"Why…yes," said Eliot. "How did you know?"

"Your hands, my boy, your hands. I find that you can often learn a great deal about someone from careful examination of his hands. There is no better indication of what a man wants than how he chooses to spend his time, and everything a man does is recorded in his hands. It has become popular of late to describe the eyes as 'the windows to the soul,' but a good liar can twist his face to say whatever he wishes. No, if you truly wish to know a man, look to his hands."

"Uh, thanks, I guess," said Eliot.

"Ah, I ramble!" said Babbingtree. "You seek a costume, not a lecture! I apologize; I sometimes get carried away when discussing my craft. Come, what you seek is this way."

Examining the fantasy 'section'—though 'wing' might be a more appropriate term, given the size of the store—Eliot found no shortage of suitable outfits. All the costumes were of exceptionally high quality—all the fabrics were thick, rich and authentic with none of the unnatural sheen that too often spoiled otherwise fine sets. No, every piece of clothing here looked like it came straight from the set of a high-budget movie. The selection of pseudo-medieval armor was particularly striking—full sets of shining steel armor that looked every bit as authentic as genuine museum pieces. Not only the armors were impressive—the attention to detail was such that any one of these costumes would surely be the talk of G-con.
