Chapter #3

Delia and Leo

    by: Unknown
"Excuse me..Do you have a restroom I can use?" Delia hated to ask people for things as mundane as this but she really REALLY had to go.

She shifted the weight of her backpack slightly in hopes that her cat wasn't poking his paw up out of it again; Leo had gotten them thrown out of so many places now and she didn't want to risk pissing off this sweet-looking old man.

He pointed out the restroom sign and she ignored the look of pity on his face when he realized that she was obviously homeless. She had on dirty shorts, flip flops that were too large for her feet and a stained shirt; her other belongings were crammed into the duffel bag she held close to her side as she made her way through the rows of fancy schmancy costumes to the rear of the store where the restrooms were.

"Young lady..."

Delia groaned when she heard his voice coming through the closed door to the restroom and she swiftly tried to recall if she'd locked the door because Leo was out roaming around the tiny bathroom to stretch his legs for even the briefest of minutes.

"Young lady... I have a gift for you, being as it's almost Halloween and no young lady as pretty as yourself should be without a costume... I'll leave it outside the door for you."

This man could NOT be real, Delia thought to herself yet she could hear him leaving and a frown marred her forehead as she finished her business, tucked Leo back into her back pack and carefully opened the door to find an outfit, complete with wig and shoes, folded neatly outside the bathroom door along with a smaller costume obviously meant for Leo, meaning that he'd seen the cat.

She unfolded the costume to discover a detailed Medieval gown of rich burgundy velvet with the most delicate of creamy lace accents, a pointy hat to match it had a sheer gauze train falling from it and what looked to be burgundy velvet ballet slippers sat beneath a wig that was made of intricately laced ebony braids... the cat's costume was one that made her laugh... it was a small unicorn costume that he'd hate to have put on him.

Of course she couldn't keep the costumes... could she?
