The couple, Tim and Nicole Sanders, headed into the elevator along with their beloved golden retrievers, Sammy and Maggie.
Nicole looked at her husband sternly as she saw him slipping one of them a dog biscuit. "Come on, hun...you spoil them too much."
The two were moving and were driving to their new home, which was hundreds of miles away, because they didn't want to fly the dogs, having heard horror stories of such things. This pet-friendly hotel they'd found online was a godsend. Too many hotels didn't take pets, and if they did, like the plane, it was at an incredible markup.
Tim slipped the key into the lock and pushed open the door. The room was a small suite, with a bedroom and a small outer area for the dogs. He couldn't believe how reasonable the prices had been. The receptionist had mumbled something about the slow season.
The two started to unpack when suddenly, Maggie keeled over, followed by Sammy. "What the..." Tim said, running over to check on them before hearing a thump...his wife collapsing forward on the bed.
He ran to the door....it must be carbon monoxide or something...but never made it.
