This choice: "Oh, dear... Something dead..." She's led to a corpse... • Go Back... The vixen quickly pulled her muzzle down and cringed as her paws leap to her snout.
"Oh... Oh..." she muttered, as a foul stench assaulted her. "Oh, my... What on earth... Oh, is that..?"
Her stomach turned as she realized what she was smelling: The unmistakable stink of a decomposing body.
"Oh, no..." The vixen kept a paw on her sensitive nose as she took a few cautious steps forward. Did she even want to keep going? That's what an adventurer would do, after all. They'd forge onward, even if it meant seeing and smelling some deeply unpleasant... But, as Maria would often admit to herself, she wasn't a very good adventurer.
But turning back wouldn't do the fox much good. She'd already spent a day on this road, and she'd spend another simply going back the way she came with no towns or homesteads she could avail herself of for hospitality. If she was going to find somewhere to rest or eat, it'd be up ahead, and she'd just have to pretend that she was a good adventurer, and forge on.
The orange vixen resumed walking, grim thoughts filling her mind. Who, or what, met their end nearby? What grisly end did they meet?..
And what did they leave behind?
A few gears began to turn in Maria's head, and a shameful thought arose. Whatever they left behind, they mustn't need it anymore...
Was she really thinking that? That she'd simply loot a corpse?
The vixen sighed. Yes, yes she would. She had no money, and... Well, this is simply what adventurers do. Whether or not there was a... "Previous owner" nearby, they take things that they find in the wilderness for themselves.
The fox gingerly uncurled her paw from her muzzle, and took a cautious whiff, grimacing as the stench filled her nostrils once more. She could smell it coming from beyond a stand of trees, but couldn't see anything... But she was fairly close. She quickly returned her paw to her snout as she took a few careful steps off of the path and into the trees.
A dozen or so yards later found her nearing the other side. She could peer through some bushes between the trees and spy a clearing beyond, and at the edge of the clearing... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
