Chapter #3

Entering Mall

    by: Unknown Author IconMail Icon
I strolled through the mall, my hands in my pockets, observing the mundane yet fascinating lives of the humans around me. As an Entity, I found their routines oddly entertaining. Today, I was in the mood for a little mischief.

I spotted a mother and her teenage son near the food court. The mother, a woman in her early 40s with short blonde hair and a warm smile, was chatting animatedly with her son. The boy, around 16, had a mop of dark hair and was slouching slightly, clearly in that phase where he was too cool to be seen with his mom in public. Yet, there was a playful dynamic between them.

"Come on, Ethan," the mother said, nudging him gently. "It would be nice if you helped me around the house more often. You know, like, doing the dishes or vacuuming once in a while."

Ethan rolled his eyes but couldn't suppress a grin. "Mom, I’m not your maid," he joked, crossing his arms. "I’ve got, like, important teenager stuff to do. Like... uh... gaming. And... stuff."

The mother laughed, shaking her head. "Oh, sure, very important. But seriously, a little help wouldn’t hurt."

I couldn’t help but smirk. "Oh, but what if you were?" I thought. The idea was too delicious to resist. I couldn’t help but smirk. This was perfect. A little twist in their dynamic would make for an amusing afternoon. With a snap of my fingers, I set my plan into motion.

In an instant, Ethan’s demeanor changed. His slouch straightened, and a bright, almost eager expression spread across his face. He looked down at himself, now clad in a pristine black-and-white maid outfit, complete with a frilly apron and a matching headband. The transformation was seamless, and to anyone else in the mall, it was as if he had always been dressed this way.

"Mom!" Ethan exclaimed, his voice filled with excitement. "You know what, Mom? You’re right. I should help out more around the house. In fact, I love helping out. I love everything about being a maid!"

The mother, whose name was Linda, blinked in surprise but quickly adapted to the sudden change. "Oh, Ethan, that’s... wonderful!" she said. "I mean, I’ve always wanted a son who loves housework as much as you do."

Ethan beamed, adjusting his apron. "Of course, Mom! I’ll take care of everything from now on. In fact, let me carry those shopping bags for you." He reached out and took the bags from Linda’s hands, holding them with a sense of pride.

As they continued walking, Ethan began detailing his plans for the house. “When we get home, I’ll start with the living room. I’ll dust, vacuum, and rearrange the furniture to make it more inviting. Then I’ll move on to the kitchen—I’ll polish the counters and organize the pantry. Oh, and I’ll make sure your favorite tea is always ready for you!”

Linda looked genuinely touched. “Ethan, that’s… actually really sweet of you. I didn’t know you cared so much about keeping the house in order.”

“Of course, Mom! It’s my job, and I take pride in it,” Ethan said with a proud smile.

Linda couldn’t help but laugh. "Well, I’m not going to complain. You’ve really embraced this, haven’t you?"

"Absolutely!" Ethan said, his eyes sparkling. "Being a maid is, like, the best thing ever. I can’t wait to get home and start cleaning."

Linda smiled, clearly pleased with her son’s newfound enthusiasm. "You know, Ethan, you’ve been such a big help lately. Is there anything you’d like as a reward? A new video game, maybe?"

Ethan thought for a moment, then shook his head. "Actually, Mom, I’d love another maid outfit. I mean, I already have a closet full of them, Actually, I’d love more maid outfits! I’ve been wanting to expand my collection.”

Linda chuckled. “Ethan, you already have a closet full of maid outfits at home. I don’t even know where you got half of them. Victorian afternoon, Victorian morning, miniskirt, French, Classical, Chinese, Japanese, Lolita, Gothic, Steampunk… even swimsuit maid outfits! And don’t even get me started on the colors and designs. You’ve got one for every occasion.”

Ethan nodded eagerly. “Mom, it’s not about need. It’s about variety. Each outfit has its own vibe, you know? Like, the Victorian afternoon dress is perfect for formal cleaning, while the miniskirt one is great for quick chores. And the swimsuit maid outfits are ideal for poolside tidying. I know I have a closet full of maid outfits, but there’s still so much more I need! For example, I don’t have a proper Edwardian-style maid outfit yet. And I’ve been eyeing this really cute modern maid dress with a pastel pink apron. It’s perfect for spring cleaning!”

Linda chuckled, shaking her head. "Alright, alright. If it makes you happy, we’ll get you another maid outfit. But you’d better keep the house spotless, young man."

Ethan’s face lit up with joy. "Thank you, Mom! I promise I’ll be the best maid you’ve ever had. The house will be so clean, you’ll be able to eat off the floors!"

Linda laughed, patting her son on the shoulder. "I’ll hold you to that, Ethan. Now, let’s go find that Edwardian-style maid outfit before you start planning to reorganizing my closet by color."

As they walked off toward the clothing store, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction. The mother was happy, the son was thrilled, and I had successfully added a little twist to their lives. But my work here wasn’t done yet. There were still so many possibilities to explore in this mall. After all, why stop at just one transformation?
