This choice: I'd love to test my strength. Bring on Superman and Captain Marvel! • Go Back... Dennis didn't want to change Wendy any more than he already had at the moment - so he was careful to take the next photo without her in frame. Finding an empty room he aimed the camera and took a shot. Before his and Wendy's eyes the room was transformed into a scientific wonder. Aparatus of all sorts lined the walls, every surface was made of a cold slate blue metal - and in the center of the room sat a bench press stand build of metals outside the realm of human understanding - and upon the stand sat a single metal bar. On either side of the bar stood the most powerful mortals in the world.
At one end, Superman - the Man of Steel. An alien being possessed of strength far beyond that of humans - or by some measuring, all of humanity as a total.
At the other end, Captain Marvel - Earth's Mightiest Mortal, the strength of a demigod and the stamina of a titan made him stand above mere mortals - sometimes as far as, sometimes farther than his counterpart.
"So, Diana, this is the photographer you got for this competition. He hardly looks a professional.", Superman said.
"Gee, Superman, no need to be so hard on the boy - I think he'll do just swell.", Captain Marvel responded in his booming, resonant, wise voice - though strangely spiced with child like choice of phrase.
Of course, Dennis knew both of these men's secrets and thus knew that Superman could surely spot a professional photographer being a journalist, and the child like language of Captain Marvel was because - despite the wisdom of Solomon, he was in fact merely the young Billy Batson most of the time.
"Yep - Dennis is going to be my full time photographer from now on - his photo's bring out the best in me.", Wendy replied. "So, how are we doing this?"
"Well, you'll go first - and lift your maximum - then I'll go, then the Captain, each pushing our maximum. After that we each get one more attempt to outlift the others."
Wendy smiled and whispered to Dennis "No pictures on this first round."
Dennis watched the sexy superheroine slink over to the bench press bar and begin to raise it - her muscles lifting the deceptively small object with aparent strain.
"OK Captain, start cranking it up until she's at her max.", Superman said. In response, Captain Marvel began to increase the weight. Dennis looked to the digital readout - eyes darting back and forth between it and Wendy - wait, did they call her Diana? - and her feat of strength.
The weight was already at 100 tons by the time he looked to it - and he was having increasing trouble trying to conceal the hard on pulsing in his pants.
When he saw how quickly the numbers climbed he nearly came and passed out. 100 tons became 100 kilotons, which gave way to 100 megatons and 100 gigatons. Wendy was now lifting 100 billion tons and it looked like she had more left. The machine, able to judge the strain on it's user began to increase the weight by more fine precision - maxing her out at an awe inspiring 900 gigatons! Her muscles looked bigger than ever as they were absurdly pumped from the effort. Dennis knew right away he'd made the unconscious choice to go with a pre-crisis Wonder Woman rather than the post crisis version, as that level of strength was far beyond the moder Wonder Woman.
As Wendy reracked the weight, Superman stepped to the bar and began his lift where she had left off. The weight measurement jumped rapidly again - to 10 terratons - 10 trillion tons of weight were being held aloft by the less than appropriately named Man of Steel - he should be the man of... well, whatever metal it was that supported his effort now in the form of the bar and the bench. As his strain increased the weight edged up to 30 terratons. At that weight it leveled out as Superman's arms trembled and returned the bar to it's rack. Over 30 times stronger than Wonder Woman, he had established his superiority.
When the Captain took his place and began his lift at the established 30 terratons Dennis was shocked, but then he remembered how much he liked the character and his depiction in such great stories as Kingdom Come and realized his thoughts had made the Captain the stronger of the two men - though not by the same margin as there was between Wonder Woman and Superman - as the Captain brought the weight up to 100 terratons.
"Gee boys, you really inspire me.", Wendy flirted with the two super beings. "Why I just might have to double my efforts - or maybe redouble them to keep up. Why heck, I suppose I should put all the effort in the world into this next lift. Dennis, please take a picture of this lift - I think it will be the climax of our display."
Dennis just hoped he didn't climax - again - before he could snap this picture.
"And boys - I think you'd better hold onto the bar for this one.", she said going into position.
"Don't worry Diana, the bar won't give you more than you can lift.", Captain Marvel replied.
"Oh, it's not that I'm worried about. You see boys, I've been keeping my strength in reserve - I need you boys to hold the weight down as best you can, because I don't think this thing can go high enough to challenge the muscles I'm about to show off."
Dennis gulped as he raised the camera - that thought hammered into his brain by Superman's statement, "Diana, we haven't even found an upper limit to this device yet, I think you're being boastful."
"Humor me."
And sure enough, in Dennis view finder he saw Superman and Captain Marvel pushing down on the bar - and he snapped the picture... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
