Chapter #4

He goes home

Somehow missing out on the destruction he had wrought, Dennis headed home, turning up the corner and into his driveway. He hadn’t really caused all of that activity in the park had he? That simply made no sense. Trying to dismiss what had happened, he hopped off the scooter. Pulling off the load of clothes, Dennis walked through the garage into the laundry room and dumped the clothes. He turned into the kitchen and saw his Mom standing near the sink, drinking coffee and staring out the window.

“Hi, Mom.”

His Mom, Mary, shook her head and forced a smile. “Oh, hi Dennis. I guess I didn’t hear you come in.”

Dennis twisted his head slightly. “Is something wrong, Mom?”

Mary’s smile dropped and she held back tears. “No, no. It’s just that your father called and said he would be stopping by to drop off the last of the papers for me to sign.”

Dennis’s heart sank. He had never thought his parents would split up. It was only just a year ago that his Dad told his Mom that he was seeing someone else and wanted out of the marriage. It wasn’t just the fact that he was leaving, but that he was leaving her for a 22 year old fitness instructor he met at the gym. This drove Dennis nuts. First of all, how could he do that to his mom? And second, his girlfriend was seriously hot. He should be chasing after Laura, not him. At 5 foot 8, she was a picture perfect fitness model with blonde hair, athletic curves, young beautiful features and a pair of breasts that were likely purchased, but were still stunning. All of this was nearly more than Mary could take. She used to be in pretty good shape back in the day, but years of family life had taken a toll. Now she felt terribly alone, angry and betrayed. Dennis walked closer, putting his hand on her shoulder.

“Oh Mom, I am so sorry.”

Mary placed her hand on Dennis’s and then gently pulled in off. “You don’t need to be sorry. It’s your father that no longer wants to be around.”

Dennis stood there as his mom took a few steps to get some more coffee. She leaned up against the counter.

“He never really gave me a good reason other than he no longer had the same feelings toward me. I guess looking at the girl he left me for tells me he no longer found me attractive. It’s not like I can compete with what he’s chasing after. Maybe if I were 10 or 20 years younger.”

Dennis grit his teeth. What if his Mom COULD compete with Laura, or better yet put her to shame? What if she had the body of a 32 year old? Or a 22 year old. Then she could tell him where to go. Or make him come back. His Dad must like the muscle girls, just like him. Well, what if his Mom’s body was a muscle pumping powerhouse? That would show him.

Dennis flushed as he took a breath. He had gone to counseling about his parent’s divorce and figured he just went through 3 stages of grief in 30 seconds. Shaking his head and fighting back his own tears, he reached into his pocket and pulled out the camera, hoping to change the subject.

“Look, Mom, I got a great deal on a new digital camera. The guy at the pawn shop was practically giving it away.”

Letting out a deep sigh, his Mom’s expression softened. Dennis was a good son.

“That’s nice, dear. Have you tried it out yet?”

Dennis nodded his head. “Yeah, I took a picture when I stopped in the park.”

He raised the camera up toward his Mom. “How about a picture?”

His Mom reached up, touching the shoulder length black hair and scratching the back of her neck. The loose gray sweatshirt was an older one and the jeans didn’t hide her expanding behind. “Oh, I look awful, Dennis.”

Dennis smirked. “You women always say that. You look fine. And the best thing about digital pictures is that we can always erase it later.”

Mary shook her head. “Well, OK.”

She stood up as high as her 5 foot 2 inch frame in her bare feet would allow and smiled. She really was a good looking woman of 42 and the wrinkles around her soft green eyes were hardly noticeable.

Neither of them heard Dennis’s Dad pull in the driveway with Laura along for the ride. He hopped out of the car and headed toward the front door.

Meanwhile, Dennis held up the camera with several thoughts swimming in his head. What if his Mom was 32 and twice the woman that Laura was. What if his Mom were 22 and 10 times the woman, with bulging muscles and mega strength? Wrinkling his forehead at the image facing him from the camera, he jerked slightly and took the picture.

When he pulled it down he was surprised to see that his Mom looked.
