Matthew thought to himself. The staff was theoretically his and asking someone to cast it on him was no big deal. He'd have to avoid the clergy though. Serra and Renault might recognize the staff's origin. Eventually he settled for Erk, the purple haired mage. Matthew would have to offer him something in return for helping him and grabbed a few gold coins from his pouch before heading off.
Moments after the thief was showing the staff to Erk who viewed it with suspicious eyes. "Are you sure you found this staff lying in the woods? It looks pretty valuable, I doubt anyone would just lose it like that." Erk waved the weapon around to get a feel on how it gripped.
"Oh yeah of course! Now do you want the gold or not?" Matthew tapped his foot impatiently. He was both curious and excited to see what his stole-er found artifact could do.
"Alright, but I'm not liable for any damages..." Erk sounded doubtful but began drawing from the magic within the staff. A white light glowed and quickly surrounded the two, blinding Matthew. "Hey Erk you're sure you're doing this right?" He shouted with his eyes closed.
"Yes, well I think so anyway!" Erk shouted back. His hand couldn't let go just yet but the light had blinded him as well. The magic felt strange but not unpleasant and he could feel it targeting Matthew.
After a few minutes the light faded. Erk cough and opened his eyes, waiting to see the results of his actions.
