Megan opened the door and saw Mikes girlfriend Shanon standing on the other side. “Oh, hi Mrs Smith, is Mike ready?” They had planned for Mike to come out and meet her when she arrived and was confused when he didn’t just not come out but didn’t even answer the door when she came up to the house
“Ready? Ready for what?” Megan asked, not sure as to why Shanon was at her door “I don’t believe I called for a babysitter”
“A babysitter? No, I’m here for a date. Me and Mike had one planned for tonight. At least I thought we did”
“But the two of you aren’t dating, are you?” Megan was beginning to feel a mild headache. At this point their two perceptions of reality began to clash. One where Mike was just a sweet big baby boy and the other where he was a far more mature boyfriend. And soon one of them would have to bend in favor of the other.
“Of course we’re dating” Shanon retorted as her head started to hurt as well “we celebrated our one year anniversary last month. We all went out to a restaurant and he payed for all of us. Or maybe you payed, was even our one year. Maybe... six months? But I’m sure it happened”
“Yes, yes I remember that night” she recalled as the magic of the wish filled in gaps almost as fast as she remembered. Brandon was in a high chair next to Mike in... another high chair? Yes, definitely. And Shanon definitely was there to celebrate something about her and Mike. “That was at... Chuck E Cheese wasn’t it?”
“Y-yeah” Shanon agreed as her memories conformed to the story. She remembered finding it a bit childish at the time, or maybe the right amount of childish... or maybe it was completely normal that Mike would want to celebrate their anniversary there. And she’d be happy to be there with him. “But I know we were going on a date tonight”
“Mike isn’t old enough to go on dates, he’s just a baby” Megan simply responded, casually dropping a bomb that threw Shanon the more than anything else in this pseudo argument so far. “I would know, I just changed his diaper. Are you sure you don’t mean play date?”
Shanons mind didn’t know which direction to go. Her own perceptions were buckling under the weight of Megan’s logic and the wish that Brandon had made. She could no longer deny that Mike was anything near a mature grown up, but who was she? Why was she so in love with a guy who’s favorite show was Barney and still wore diapers. Why was she dating a big baby? Was she dating a big baby? What did that make her. Was she some kind of overgrown toddler too, or maybe she really was a babysitter like Mrs Smith had suggested.
