Was the bird Pokémon either a Braviary or a Mandibuzz, or was it a different Pokémon? If Braviary is your choice, it will be a very quick thinking predator. If you want Mandibuzz, it would wait until you end up tired, no matter where you go. If it's a different Pokémon, depending on the Pokémon, it could take an extremely long time before they consider letting you out, possibly a couple of years.
