Kayla wakes up with a start. She swore she had heard someone just now. "Hello?" she calls out nervously. "Is somebody there?" For all she knew, the old bum had returned and was playing tricks on her.
"Psssttt!" the voice came again in a loud whisper. "At the window!"
She looked over to the large window on her right and was delighted to see the boy from earlier. Kayla tried to get up to the window, but she forget she was cuffed to the bed and almost fell out.
"Quiet! Or someone might hear you!" the boy said. "I warned you to get out of town!"
"But you never told me why!" Kayla answered, not happy about being told to keep quiet. "You could have said something and I would hav-"
"Ok, you're right, now keep quiet" he said, still in a quiet voice. "I'm going to get you out of here. Just sit tight."
With that, the boy left the window and headed toward the front of the house. She heard the door open and footsteps heading towards her room's door. The boy twisted the knob, but the door refused to budge. "There must be a key or something."
"That old man must have it!" she said. "Can you break it do-"
But the boy already was pounding at the door, trying to tackle it up. He tried this for several minutes, but to no avail.
"It's no use, we have to try something else." he said.
"What? What else can we do?!" Kayla exclaimed. "I'll trapped in a room and there's an old guy coming back to suck on my toes! I don't want him to do that again! Now get me out of here!."
"I'm sorry, but only he can open it," the boy said. "Listen, I'm going to wait for him to get back and open the door. I'll jump him once the door is open and get you out. Besides, he's probably got the keys to your cuffs anyway.'
"Are you insane?!" the young girl said. "Get me out right now! I'm not going to take this anymore!"
But no one replied back. He had already gone off to hide. Once again, Kayla was scared and lonely.
