While goblins continued to inhale her foot scent, Kayla turned to Finn.
"Hey, Finn," started can I ask you something?"
"Of course, Lady Kayla," nodded the head goblin.
"So... what's this about a curse?"
"What do you mean?" asked Finn.
"Well, when I said 'trick-or-trea-" she was interrupted by Finn.
"Don't, milady! You don't want another soul who likes feet to hear you, do you?" Kayla frowned at the thought.
"I guess not, sorry. Anyway, when I said it, a boy told me to run away. And then you told me about all of this. I'm guessing there is some kind of foot-curse on this town?" Finn pondered, his fingers tapping his head.
"Ah, you must have met young Cody," he said.
"Cody?"
"The boy at the house you said the rhyme to. Good lad, never hurt anybody. In fact he wants this spell to end just as much as any normal here in Creepville."
"Well," said Kayla, "how could we end the curse?" Finn sighed and sat next to her. Kayla giggled at the feel of noses sniffing her feet.
"Well, Miss Kayla, nobody really knows. In fact, nobody really knows why people are obsessed with girls feet around here."
"Why don't you all move?"
"We can't," said Finn, "That's part of the curse. No citizen is aloud to leave Creepville because of the spell. If we try, we just get zapped!"
"Oh... what about the boy?"
"Ah, that poor lad," Finn's voice became sad, "he was wandering through the town when the spell was cursed. He was on his way home from camp. Because he wasn't aloud to leave, I found him nice house to live in. Of course I check in on him every once in a while." Kayla thought about the boy's situation and was saddened by the curse the things of Creepville had to endure. "It's even worse on Halloween! Because of all the poor girls who say that rhyme, some people and goblins can't help but get to their feet. In fact you, my dear," he pointed to Kayla, "are the first girl in nearly 5 months to come to the town."
"Well I didn't know!" said Kayla, "I just wanted to go trick-or-treating while my parents were out of town.
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that," said Finn.
After a while, Finn perked up again.
"You know Miss Kayla, I think I may know something!"
"What?"
"I got a tip from a bridge-troll the other week of strange sounds coming from the old Harper mansion. It's long been abandoned and people are afraid to check it out. Maybe there's an answer there!" Kayla cheered up.
"Oh great, so can w-" she stopped and looked at a goblin who was still sniffing between her toes, "Hey! Could I take a break!" The young goblin apologized and scurried away. "Anyway, how can I get there?"
"You mean 'we'," said Finn, "I'll accompany you!" Kayla was somewhat flattered. She then got up from the cold floor of the alley.
"You sure?" she asked.
"Of course," he responded, "Besides, I'm not gonna let our young Queen go into a haunted house by herself!" Kayla freezed as she was putting on her pink chucks.
"Di-did you j-just say h-hau-haunted?"
"Well... yeah! That's all Creepville is! In fact you could say everyday is like Halloween." Kayla was still worried about the house. Finn went to her side and helped her up.
"Don't you worry, milady!" he reassured her, "I won't let any monster, troll, zombie, mummy, vampire, or even a boy get to your feet!" Kayla smiled at him.
"Thanks, Finn."
With that, the two began taking the back roads to the old Harper Mansion. As they left, the other goblins waved goodbye to their new "Stink Queen", hoping for her and Finn to be safe!
