Jessi waited a moment but no one answered the door. She was about to ring the doorbell again when she jerked in surprise as she felt a slap on her butt. Jessi whirled around, ready to give the culprit a piece of her mind, only to see her shrunken sister, now little more than 4 feet tall and glaring at her indignantly.
“What are you doing?! You have to change me back!” Manda whined, holding her sagging pants up with one hand and swimming in her over-sized top.
Jessi frowned at her older, yet little, sister. “That’s what I’m trying to do.” She waved a hand at Katie’s house. “The purple stuff that shrank you arrived paired with a green can. If purple shrinks people, I bet green makes them grow.” Jessi brushed past Manda as she stepped off the patio and walked across the yard. “But I gave the green can to Katie.”
“Who’s not home,” Manda said. “Where do you think she is?”
“Probably at her boyfriend’s. C’mon, Shorty,” Jessi called, already walking down the sidewalk.
Manda growled and ran after her sister. “Is she still dating that nerd? Mark?”
Manda raised an eyebrow. “Oh? Are they that serious?”
Jessi caught Manda’s meaning immediately. “Not yet, as far as I know. Katie’s ready, but Matt’s some combination of oblivious, shy, and chivalrous, and Katie, bless her, doesn’t want to push him. She’s starting to get frustrated, though.”
“Tell her to just spring it on him. Answer the door in her underwear, or walk out of the bathroom naked. That’s what I did with Kevin Drummond.”
Jessi rolled her eyes. “And look how that relationship turned out.”
“Hey, it’s their first time. It’s gonna be weird and awkward and kinda suck no matter what.”
By then, Manda and Jessi had reached the front door of Matt’s house. Jessi rang the doorbell and heard a lot of crashing sounds inside the house in reply. She glanced at Manda, and was about to try the doorbell again when…
