Brian asks as the three of you head to History. You cannot help but facepalm, even if you are not entirely sure of the answer. Yasmina looks slightly embarrassed for a second.
"It is because sometimes, I do not know the word for something in English." she explains. "I can understand most words, but not all words. Sometimes I just use French words because it is my first language and I am more used to it."
"Well, Brian here doesn't pay attention in French, so that's why he might seem confused." you explain, to which Yasmina replies with an understanding nod.
"Not that I mind or anything." Brian cuts in. "It's hot."
You facepalm yet again. You were expecting him to make a fool of himself again.
"Excusez-moi? C'est chaud?" she asks, confused.
"Don't worry about him," you tell her, beckoning to the teacher who is telling the students to go into the classroom. The three of you line up and go inside, but the teacher stops Yasmina for a second.
"Are you the new student? Yasmina Leveque?" he asks her; she replies with a quick and slightly nervous nod. "Right, you sit over there, next to Anthony Walker. Here's your book, just write your name and the class on the front." he explains, handing her a green book.
She approaches the empty seat next to you and sits down slowly, glancing at you in shock. "Oh! It is you again!" she laughs, beginning to write her name on her book. "Do you speak good French?"
"Yeah, a little, I guess." you reply. "If you need me to, um, translate anything, just let me know."
"Merci beaucoup!" she giggles cheerfully. You can't help but smile back, her borderline insane happiness seems to be rubbing off on you a little, although it isn't annoying or irritating like you'd expect.
Your thoughts are interrupted as you see Brian from across the room, he seems to be preparing something. As soon as the teacher turns his back, he throws a paper plane across the room at you, and it lands perfectly on your desk. Either he spends too much time practising or it was a pure fluke. On the wing of the plane was written: "You lucky sod. Say hi to Amelia for me."
Great, he couldn't even remember her name. You quickly scrunch up the plane and stuff it into your pocket before the teacher or Yasmina could see it, luckily she was too busy absorbing the information from the textbook in front of her. At least someone around here was enjoying school... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
