It was dark, a room with little to no lighting in it; in the center sat a spiky figure huffing. His eyes were filled with pain, his eyes red as the streaks that designed along his black body. Around him were bodies, bodies of other beings like him, his friends; Rouge, Omega, Knuckles, Amy, and even Sonic. They all bore deep wounds, impalements really. Only Shadow was unharmed, but his friends were all dead.
"I...couldn't save anyone...again." He muttered with a tear sliding down his cheek.

"WAKE UP!"
Shadow opened his eyes to a gloved hand smacking him on the forehead, eyes filled with surprise. The gloved hand retracted after its blow, going back to the side of who had it, Rouge the Bat. Typical of her Rouge was in her outfit which seemed to be a black jumpsuit with a heart design for her nice cleavage, and a pair of white boots and gloves to match. One would never guess that she's a world class thief.
"What happened?" The hedgehog muttered, his head throbbing slightly from Rouge's smack.
The batgirl shook her head with a sigh, "You were moaning in your sleep hun. Must've been having a heck of a nightmare. Had to make sure you were okay."
Shadow's eyes narrowed, he didn't recall falling asleep, or even where he was. Looking around he seemed to be in the middle of the woods, a campfire weakly shining before him and Rouge. " Where...are we?"
Groaning loudly again Rouge smacked Shadow on the head, "Man that was some nightmare. You don't remember GUN's mission?"
"Mission?"
"ALLOW ME TO EXPLAIN" A robotic, inhuman voice rang out loudly. From behind Shadow and some trees came another of Shadow's dearest friends, Omega the robot. Omega was a bit of a pyschopath but he was none the less a strong friend and a trusting ally.
The hedgehog remained silent, gesturing for Omega to continue. The robot took another step forward, his electronic eyes seemed focused on the camp fire. " GUN ASSIGNED ROUGE,SHADOW, AND MYSELF TO INVESTIGATE A MYSTERIOUS ANOMALY IN THE DESIGNATED AREA. BELIEVED TO BE CONNECTED TO DR. EGGMAN."
Leaping up next to Omega Rouge conked him on the head, "You idiot! Keep it down! Turn down the volume or something!"
"NEGATIVE, AND YOUR NOISE OUTPUT LEVELS ARE HIGHER THAN MY OWN."
Gritting her teeth Rouge appeared as if she was about to leap at Omega but Shadow brought forth a gloved hand and held her back. "Tell me Omega. Do we have any information regarding this anomaly?"
The machine was silent for a moment, " ALL THAT IS KNOWN IS THAT IT INVOLVES HIGH LEVELS OF ENERGY. ALSO A RECENT STREAM OF DISAPPEARANCES ARE BELIEVED TO BE LINKED. "
"Anything else?"
"NEGATIVE"
Shadow sighed, " So we're studying a mystery basically?"
Playfully smiling Rouge winked at Shadow " Yeah but no worries. We're bound to find some nice jewels! Or if we find the missing people we get rewards!"
Both of the others seemed to roll their eyes.
"Don't care."
"ERROR"
Rouge fumed, "Not nice!"
Together the trio laughed, even Omega although his seemed more...forced; robots weren't exactly programmed to laugh. With this enjoyable time they relaxed, for it was getting late and tommorow things were going to probably be rough.
It wasn't long before everyone was resting, Omega turning on "Sleep mode", Rouge sleeping in an extravagant and overall uneeded tent, and Shadow leaning against a tree lost in his own nightmares again.
The dreams were hazy, nothing like they were before; it was nothing but a blurr that Shadow barely acknowledged. What his focus was on was that despite being asleep, something seemed horribly amiss. Shadow shrugged it off though, or at least in his sleep filled state he did.
Hours passed but through sleep it felt like moments, Shadow opened his eyes weakly, quickly widening them to their fullest. The area all around him...it was unreal...gigantic, the world around him was over a thousand times bigger than before! Somehow, someway he must've shrunken!
