Problem is, Max realizes as he scratches his gut, if that he's still hungry. It's then that it occurs to him that there might be a stray bag of chips lost between the couch cushions. Max shoves his big hand between the cushions and starts rooting around.
He rummages around in under the cushion, he fishes out a wallet and a mobile phone. He is about to open the wallet and find out whose it is when his hungry belly growls for more food. He shrugs and drops the wallet and phone into his big mouth and swallows them down easily. He pushes his hand back down the back of the sofa looking for more food.
He pulls out a handful of change and, with a bit of yanking, a rumpled paperback version of the Lord of the Rings. He vaguely recalls Bryan had been looking for that book not long ago.
"Well, not my problem!" says Max, gleefully biting a chunk out of the book, chewing it up into pulp before shoving the rest into his big mouth. The change he dumps in like a handful of M&Ms, crunching them up easily.
"Man, this stuff from the couch tastes pretty good! It's almost like it's seasoned or something! I wonder what else is in there?"
He moves over and lifts up one of the cushions to look under it, crumbs and lint is all he can find. He shrugs and sniffs the cushion out of curiosity. It smells musky and he licks it, slurping some of the crumbs off the fabric. His belly growled deeply and he frowned. He tried to remember where he had got the couch from, he had a vague feeling he had borrowed it from someone. He licked the cushion again.
