Guardsman

    by: SF85 Author IconMail Icon
The guardsman actually looked surprise to see you approach. He was wearing thick padded armour to black out the cold although his helmet showed his face enough to reveal he was a fairly handsome man "Halt!" He cried out as you reach the Gatehouse, his position being just behind the steel portcullis itself, the structure alloweing him to peek through the gaps "What brings a traveller to Eisbercher at this time of year? You cannot be a merchant to trade, you have no caravan. Nor can you be a noble, you have no convoy and your outfit is hardly one of wealth. Speak, what do you want?"

"Work." You reply, with a certain degree of honesty "I had heard that the Royal Family was always looking for skilled workers with a blade to help with the beasts that dwell in the snow."

No sooner had you finished than the guard gave a dark laugh "Aye! They certainly do look for outsiders for that!" He said, pulling a ring with several keys from his belt before using one to unlock a small door within the gate itself "No one in the fortress would take such a risk!" He said, letting you step into the fortress itself "Go along to the top level of the Fortress. The Princes are currently inspecting other volunteers, you might be lucky enough to catch their eye to volunteer, if you catch them in time that is."

With that, you thank the guardsman and go onwards into the fortress, your mouth agape at the sheer size of it. It had been said that it had taken a decade to carve Eisbercher out of the mountain that was its location and you can believe it. Houses were lined up, carved out of the rock of the moutain and made for an imposing sight. The Fortress itself was over three miles large with various levels built into the moutain, each with its own specific purpose.

Now free to go into Eibercher, you have the chance to explore, maybe look into the dark rumours circulating about the King's ill health and the conspiracy involving his children. A nearby pub could very well be the best place to start, tongues wagged much more when there was alcohol involved after all. Or you could go straight to the Princes themselves and ask them about the rumours circulating their family. You eventually decide to...

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. Go to the pub

2. Go to the Princes

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
