About shapeshifting

I put the lid down on the toilet and sat down. "Mom, I've got so many questions... I don't know how to ask them all."

She nodded. "I understand. For now, let's just cover some things you'll need to know about our abilities.

"You'll need to stay away from fire. The damage from a burn can restrict your shapeshifting. You'd recover, but it could take weeks or months, depending on the severity of the burn.

"Extreme cold can slow the metamorphosis. The effect isn't lasting, but you'll want to be aware of the temperature."

I nodded. "Anything else?"

"You'll need to keep your focus, even at times when a teenage boy isn't accustomed to focusing. You saw how quickly you changed at just a thought. You can imagine what might happen when you're at school, if you were to fantasize about one of your classmates."

I nodded. I know she's way out of my league, but I'd recently started fantasizing about Caitlin Spencer. I could just picture that getting out of control.

"I'll let you get back to your routine," Mom said, and left the bathroom.
