Standing nervously, in the pod, you know Courtney's in the neighbouring pod. The scientist is checking to ensure you both are translated into neighbouring bodies in California. With the helmet ready to read your mind you can't even lean forward to see her.
"We'll soon be in California." Courtney assures you.
"Yeah... yeah..." you answer. The excitement you want to show, feeling dampened down. You can't quite shake the impression of coffins for these pods.
The scientist finally nods her approval. "You'll wake up and emerge from neighbouring pods." She assures you, as the pods seal you away.
The silence is shocking as all noise cuts out. The sound of your breathing, and the rustling of your clothes the only sounds that exist in your coffin-like universe. A countdown lights up the window onto the lab.
As it gets close to zero, you shut your eyes. There's a lurch, and you stagger within the confines of the pod. Blinking eyes, that feel as if they haven't worked in ages, you see a different scene beyond the window of your pod.
Your vision blurry, you need to keep blinking to wet your eyes. That same pneumatic hiss announces the pods are opening. The cries of seagulls and the salty air let you know you're in California.
