Henry Storm woke up with a start on the morning of his thirteenth birthday by the loud rumble of thunder which could be heard from the distance.
“Man… what a way to wake up…” he groaned, as he stumbled out of bed. He groggily looked at his digital clock, which indicated that it was only 4:55 AM in the morning. “I’d better unplug my computer!”
He moved his mouse over the mouse mat so that the screen came on, and he tapped on the keyboard, curiously looking to see if there were any new emails for him, before he would shut down the laptop and unplug it from the wall, due to the oncoming thunderstorm, which was so common in the state of Florida during the hot summer months.
“Ahh… birthday wishes… more birthday… what’s this? ‘Greetings from the Greek Gods?’” Henry thought, as he was quietly reading the email subjects. The last subject sounded interesting, as he clicked on the title.
“Dear Henry Storm, Greetings on your thirteenth birthday. Today, you will discover your great strength and your true origin will be revealed. You’ll learn that you’re one of us. Have a Happy Birthday! Signed, Hercules, your real father.”
“Say what?” Henry gasped out loud. “Is this some kind of a joke?”
BOOM!
“I’d better unplug my laptop!” Henry said, as panic set in. Flashes of light lit up the dark sky outside, and he could see the flashes through the window.
Henry quickly shut down his laptop and unplugged the cable from the power. He did it just in time, as there was another loud rumble of thunder when the power went out for two seconds, before coming back on.
“Me? The son of Hercules? That has got to be some sort of a joke!” Henry murmured to himself, as he grabbed quietly walked to the bathroom. He was only 5 foot 4 inches tall with short, light brown hair and brown eyes. He was skinny as a board and he only played a little tennis and volleyball in middle school. He was just starting the seventh grade and he was certainly no athlete. He was very average in everything he did and he often got bullied since he wasn’t very big, tall, or popular.
Henry took a leak before going back to bed. He knew that his mom loved him, even though he had been adopted as a baby. He had no idea who his real father was. She had told him that his father had died in Iraq. But, there was no way his father was a Greek God. Or, was there?
