"Alright, why don't you all introduce yourselves. One at a time." said the masked man. From the sound of his voice it was apparent he wasn't really interested in all this.
"Introduce ourselves? Well, what are we supposed to say?" asked Sakura, while she and her teammates eyed the the silver-haired jonin.
"Things you like. Things you hate. Dreams for the future. Hobbies. That sort of thing." the man explained as leaned against a nearby tree.
That made a lot more sense, but still...
"Why don't you go first so we can see how this is supposed to work." Naruto suggested. It was a good idea on his part considering they barely knew anything about the man in front of them.
"Me?" the masked man gestured to himself. "Well I'm Kakashi Hatake. Things I like and things I hate... I don't feel like telling you that. Dreams for the future? Haven't really thought about. As for hobbies, I have lots of hobbies. Now your turn."
"That was completely useless, all he really told us was his name." Sakura whispered to her teammates, although given her size her words weren't really hidden from the jonin.
The now Identified ninja had given them nothing.
Naruto agreed with the pink-haired giant and decided to go first. "Alright, Believe it! I'm Naruto Uzumaki! I like instant ramen in a cup, and I really love the ramen at the Ichiraku noodle shop. I also hate the three minutes you have to wait after you pour the water in the noodle cup..."
It was at this point Sakura began to tune out her teammate as it was clear his mind seemed to revolve around ramen and nothing else. What was so great about ramen anyway? It was just a bunch of empty calories and salt!
"...And my dream is to be the greatest Hokage! That way people will stop disrespecting me and treat me like I'm somebody, somebody important!"
Well that was certainly different compared to all the soup talk. At least the blonde could dream big.
"Alright, you next." Kakashi pointed to Sakura.
The kunochi began to grow slightly nervous but did as instructed. "My name is Sakura Haruno! What I like is..."
Her introduction mostly revolved around her blue-clad teammate. Needless to say like Kakashi her introduction didn't really do much.
"And? Things you hate?" The jonin pushed.
"NARUTO!!!" she said without hesitation. The blonde looked defeated. Poor guy.
"Last one." Kakashi said, trying to speed these introductions along.
"My name is Sauke Uchiha. I hate a lot of things and don't particularly like anything. What I have isn't a dream because I will make it a reality. I will avenge my clan and destroy a certain someone."
The introduction was short, sweet, and to the point. Everyone was silent for a moment as they took in his words. Naruto hoped he wasn't talking about him and Sakura thought the introduction only made her teammate more alluring. Kakashi mentally decided to keep a closer on the Uchiha.
"Good. You're each unique and have your own ideas. We'll have our first mission tomorrow."
"What kind of mission are we going to get sensei?" Naruto asked.
"One that all of us will do together." he answered. "A survival exercise."
"A survival exercise?"
"I thought we were supposed to get a real mission, not more practice." Sakura said slightly annoyed. "We already did this sort of stuff at the academy. That's how we all got here."
"This won't be like your previous training." Kakashi said calmly. Naruto then proceeded to ask what kind of training it would be, which got an ominous laugh out of the jonin.
"That's a normal question, what's so funny?" Sakura asked the chuckling man.
"If I tell you the answer you're not going to like it." Kakashi teased before getting deathly serious. "Of the twenty-seven graduates that just came here only nine will actually be accepted as genin. The other 18 will be weeded out and sent back to the academy. In other words this is a make it or break it pass fail test and the chance that you'll fail is at least sixty-six percent!"
Everyone's blood ran cold.
"See? Didn't I tell you you wouldn't like it." Kakashi finished.
Naruto was the first to recover. "That's just crazy! We worked hard to get here, so what was graduation test for anyway!?"
It became all too clear now to Sakura what that graduation test had been for now. Thankfully she didn't have to explain as the jonin beat her to it. "Oh that? It was just to trim the fat and see which candidates might actually become ninja... or not."
"WHAT!?" Naruto shouted.
"That's just how it is. I decided whether you pass or fail. Be at the designated training spot tomorrow at 5:00am and bring your ninja gear."
Naruto trembled but was determined to not be weeded out. Sakura herself vowed to pass as well. For Sasuke, failure wasn't an option.
"That's it, your all dismissed." Kakashi waved as he was about to take his leave. "Oh!? Before I forget, you might not want eat breakfast unless you want to puke."
After saying that he vanished, leaving the three all alone with their thoughts.
