Sasuke hadn't felt all that well since his final battle with the snake Sannin. While not as strong as he once was, Orochimaru was still a crafty old bastard. He knew he would never best one of the last Uchiha in his current condition and instead left the younger sibling with a parting gift.
Sasuke had been running a high fever and was being taken care of by his redheaded teammate who had insisted he needed bedrest before he continued on with his plan to hunt down his brother. Sasuke didn't want to listen to her, but she was right, and his body thought so too.
With a resigned sigh he did as she instructed and allowed her to care for him until he was ready to leave the snake's lair. He wasn't worried about anyone coming to look for him either as Kabuto cleared out when his lord died, and the pens were opened as well. He could find other followers later.
For now, he was just resting while Karin tended to him. Every once in a while, when she thought he wasn't looking he could see her sporting a small smile with tinted cheeks. She was enjoying this. While that annoyed him slightly, he couldn't deny her bedside manner was superb.
Night eventually fell however and after a bowl of warm soup, Sasuke closed his eyes for the night. Before he did so, the redhead informed him she would check on him again in the morning. With that in mind, the avenger drifted off into unconsciousness, unaware of the change that was taking place.
Rapidly his form began to change. His curse mark glowed its eerie glow and rapidly he began to sink into his sheets. The transformation he was undergoing wasn't like it was at the Valley of the End, far from it. Instead of sprouting wings, he was shrinking down.
By the time he awoke, he would come to see what the snake Sannin's last gift to him was... and he would curse the man for it.
