An air hockey bet.

"Let's go with the air hockey bet." suggested Mel. "With you helping me, I can easily win and John will be honor bound to allow us to change him and have some fun." she paused, suddenly looking concerned. "Would changing John into a girl hurt him at all, sis?"

Hayley sighed, glad that Mel was thinking about his well being. "As long as you focus on making the change painless, John shouldn't feel a thing." she replied. "I must warn you, though, of our brother's 'slow burn' temperament."

"I know, it takes a lot to make John mad," said Mel, with a sigh. "but once he loses it...."

"Don't be the one to make him blow his stack, Mel." said Hayley. "I've seen him furious once before, it was not pretty."

That was the only warning Hayley was going to give Mel. Normally, she would not have given her sister any warning at all but she had sensed your power and knew that you had only promised three weeks of your patience.

"I hope Mel passes this test." she thought.

The following day, Hayley and Mel had dragged you to the mall. You knew that Hayley was about to open the test so you agreed to tag along as you wanted to check out a new gym equipment store. As you and your sisters stopped at the arcade, Hayley suddenly turned to you, smiling. "John, I know that it's driving you crazy, not knowing where I've been all last year." she said. "How about a little wager?"

"What kind of wager?" you asked, wondering what Hayley had in mind.

Hayley grinned, knowing that you would not like what she had in mind. "If you can win a game of air hockey against Mel, I'll tell you where I've been all last year." she replied. "If Mel wins, you wear a dress of our choice at the dress shop across the aisle on your birthday."

Your face turned red, more with embarrassment than anger. "What!? Forget it!"

Mel grinned. "Ba- buck- buck- buck!" she said, imitating a chicken.

You turned to Mel, tempted to counter her bet but that was not a part of the agreement you had with Hayley and mom. Instead, you turned to Hayley annoyed, your eyes glowing for a split second. Hayley shuddered, feeling your disapproval and gave you a quick pleading look as Mel was busy laughing.

"Fine." you said, finally. "However, I'll only wear the dress in the house. I will not discredit the family's social standing with your sick idea of a prank."

Mel stopped laughing but still smiled. "Just in the house, I promise." she said. "Lighten up, John and have some fun."

You sighed. "Let's play." you said.

The game began in earnest and you were scoring as easily as you had expected to but then, you felt a force touch your hand just before it pushed your hand away from the puck, allowing Mel to score. "So that's her little game." you thought. "Once I lose the bet, I'd be honor bound to play along and, if I try to back out, I'm fair game... interesting."

You decided to give Hayley a final reminder that you were not powerless and resisted her influence for a brief moment, eying her, before allowing her magic to move your hand. "He's warning me." thought Hayley. "I'd better keep a keen eye on this test, I doubt John will to budge on his time limit."

With that, the final score was made and Mel cheered as she won 17-16 and ran to the dress shop, laughing. Hayley was right behind her, laughing as well but not before mouthing, 'thank you'.

You nodded then followed her, putting a heavy pout on your face. "The things I do for my sisters." you muttered.

The only question left in your mind was weather to shock them by honoring the bet, to see what they would do, or give Mel and Hayley a free hand by trying to back out as you suspected they were counting on.
