"You don't have to tell me that," you said, frustrated. You try to take off your heels to make walking easier, only to find they're stuck firmly on your feet. "Why wont' they come off?"
"They'll come off if you can make it back to your room without being caught," Mom explained. "Think of it like a game."
"What if I am caught?" you ask.
"I'm sure Mel will enjoy having a true twin for a week," Mom replied. "Good luck." With that she waved her hand and disappeared. A moment later you heard her car pull away.
"Great," you said to yourself. Though you didn't have much time to think as you heard voices approaching. You quickly dive along side a bookcase and pull yourself flush with the wall, holding your skirt so it doesn't peak out. If Mel enters the room you'll be caught, but if she just looks in, she shouldn't see you. You held your breath and held perfectly still, not wanting to give away your presence.
Mel poked her head into the room, and looked around, seeing nothing. "Weird, I thought I heard something," she said.
"Maybe you heard your mom leaving?" Megan suggested from the hall. "Your car just drove off."
"Great, Megan's here too," you thought to yourself. Even worse than Mel finding you would be Megan finding you.
"That's probably it," Mel said. "Could you take my bag up to my room? I'll make us some snacks."
"Alright," Megan said. She took Mel's bag and headed upstairs while Mel headed to the kitchen.
You cautiously walked over to the door, then poked your head out. Mel was in the kitchen rummaging through the fridge, and you could already hear Megan's footsteps upstairs. Now was the time, you decided, and prepared to make a break for it when you realized something, you're wearing heels! On the carpet it's not a big deal, but on the carpeted hallway, they'd click, and Mel would come to see what the noise was. You decide your best option is to crawl. You do so, though the dress makes it tricky, and manage to silently reach the stairwell. You crawl up the stairs as quietly as possible. At the top of the stairs you see Mel's door is closed, so you crawl past and head to your room. Just outside the door, you stand up, open it, and head inside shutting the door behind you. Somehow you had succeeded.
