You hugged your sister back.
"A lot has been happening here since you left for, um... training." you said, releasing her. "I need you to listen very carefully because I do not quite understand it myself." your voice dropped to a whisper. "That scares me!"
"I'm listening, John." said Hayley, seriously.
"One year ago, today, Uncle Jack gave me this book, 'Chaotic Science'." you began. "He told me it was something he had practiced and mastered during his long life. He warned me to keep the book a secret, especially from mom."
"Why?" asked Hayley.
"I asked him that as well." you replied. "He told me that things happen for a reason and I should study and practice the book in private as it will someday save this family. He died a few days later so I took his words as his final request and honored them."
Hayley was in shock. "So you've been studying this Chaotic Science the entire year without telling any one?" she asked. "How? Where? When?"
"The book included instructions to reach and open a hidden door to a large, secret chamber, filled with everything any scientist could want or need." you said. "I volunteered to everyone's laundry to ward off any suspicions so I could go to the secret room frequently and practice. Over the course of the year, I became quite talented and intelligent." you paused. "As for how I can read a book with letters only a girl can see, I have a theory."
"What is it?"
"A few days ago, I had an argument with a girl at school, she told me that I just do not understand girls." you explained. So, I used my new found powers of Chaotic Science and temporarily rewired my brain to that of a female so I could indeed understand their thoughts and emotions.... some of that rewiring might not have reverted back to male."
Hayley could not believe what she was hearing but, in a horrible, terrifying way, it all made sense. Then John continued, his voice now quivering.
"Finally, just today, I discovered this magic book." you said, motioning to it. "I looked through the pages, reading the words and immediately panicked. It is VERY similar to my book of Chaotic Science."
Hearing that, something clicked in Hayley's mind and she let out a low scream. "Uncle Jack!" she whispered, horrified. "You DIDN'T!"
"Didn't what?" you asked, your fear rising with hers.
Hayley then suddenly hugged you again. "Don't worry, John!" she whispered. "I'll protect you!"
With that, she swiped up the magic book and tightly gripped your hand.
"Take your book and let's go!" he ordered, urgently, crying. "We have to talk to mom, NOW!"
