"I am going to suppress your memories, John." said your mother, softly. "You will no longer remember the book, your lab, or your powers. You will still have them, of course but only subconsciously."
You clench both fists, struggling to control your emotions. You had just gotten yourself to the point where you could easily control Chaotic Science, or what your witch mother called Pseudo magic, and now they wanted to take it all away from you. Although you could not argue with their reasoning, you still sank to your knees and began to cry.
"This isn't fair." you sob. "You KNOW it's not fair."
"I know this not fair, John." said your mother, tearfully. "But, for the safety of this family, I MUST do this."
You continued to sob and Hayley knelt down in front of you. "It's for the best, John." she said, crying as well. "Please believe me, we wouldn't be doing this otherwise."
You choked down a sob then reluctantly nodded. "Just get it over with!"
"I'm sorry, John." said your mother, placing her hand on your head. "I promise you, this will not hurt."
She closed her eyes in concentration and you could immediately feel your thoughts being thrown about inside your head as if they were in the middle of a tornado. Then, suddenly, you screamed out in pain just before you were plummeted into darkness.
Inside the living room, your mother continued to concentrate but then opened her eyes, hearing your scream and let out a loud gasp, removing her hand.
"What's wrong, mom?" asked Hayley, worried.
"Damn you, Jack!" she whispered, her voice quivering terror and anger. "What have you done to my son!?!"
Now Hayley was frightened. "Mom?" she asked again.
"I can not suppress his memories." replied your mother. "Not without causing him intense pain."
"What did Uncle Jack do to him!?!" asked Hayley, now angry herself.
"He... He's placed some kind of a shield around his mind, keeping me from reaching it with my magic!" said your mother. "I can break through it but it will cause John a lot of pain. More than he would be willing to forgive."
"A shield?" asked Hayley, shivering. "Is that even possible?"
"Pseudo magic is just as powerful as real magic, Hayley. Jack's power was equal to my own."
Hayley looked at you, unconscious on your knees. "What are we going to do?"
Just then, you moaned and began to stir. You rubbed your head, as it ached horribly then looked up to a tiny beeping in your ear.
"The alarm!" you shouted, jumping to your feet.
"What alarm?" asked Hayley, startled.
You immediately began to panic as you replied. "Someone has beached my secret chamber!"
With that, you ran away from Hayley and your mother, towards the basement. the two are quick to follow but you were too worried about who had entered your sacred room. You reach the secret door and find, to your horror that it was open and you ran in with your pyrokinetic flame burning in each of your hands.
"Wait, John!" warned your mother. "You don't know who or what is in there!"
Inside, you look about and quickly grab a narrow but long remote control. You had found it in a secret compartment inside the back of the book Uncle Jack had given you. You had come to call it your 'tech' wand. With it in your grasp, you slowly began to search the lab for the intruder. You soon found her and you gaped in surprise. "You!?!"
Who was it?
