Chapter #10

Magic IS a science!

by: Scifiwizard Retired Author IconMail Icon
Your mom leaned in closer. "However, there IS another option." she paused. "You could agree to become a girl and be trained in the use of REAL magic."

You were stunned by your mother's words but you were so saddened, so angered by suddenly losing your chaotic science you were not sure if you even wanted to talk to your mother ever again. She saw that in your eyes and nodded in understanding as she placed a light hand onto your shoulder.

"I know how hard this must be for you, John, to lose something you had worked so hard to build. But magic and chaotic science are VERY similar to each other and magic is far more stable."

"The only catch is I have to be a girl." you said, bitterly.

"Would that be so bad?" asked your mother. "I worry myself sick at night, wondering how it must feel to be the only boy in a family of girls. I worried even more when I discovered that you were teaching yourself a science that was beyond any normal person's comprehension." she paused. "It nearly killed me when I heard Hannah's magical call for help telling me that you had been possessed by Jack."

You began to sob, you did not know what to believe anymore. "I want my science!" you sobbed.

Suddenly, your mother smiled sweetly then lightly tightened her grip onto your shoulder to get your attention.

"John, look at me." she said.

Tears flowing, you reluctantly looked up into her eyes and paused as you found that they were laughing with some type of realization. "What?"

Your mother leaned in closer and whispered, "John, magic IS a science."

You looked at your mother strangely then searched what was left of your shattered intelligence and found that, in some strange way, she was right. You very slowly but certainly began to laugh and cry at the same time as you then suddenly embraced your mother who immediately hugged you back.

"You can have your science, John." whispered your mother. "The science of witchcraft."

You continued to quietly laugh and cry at the same time. "I'm such a fool!" you said.

"No, honey." replied your mother, now rocking you, gently. "You were just lured into a dangerous study by a dangerous man. The power behind that unstable science intrigued you and before you even realized what was happening, he had you under his power."

She then pushed you away, just enough, to look into your eyes. "But, as a girl practicing magic, I can protect you and guide you so that you can become just as powerful with real magic as you did with that chaotic science."

You think about your mother's words for a moment then slowly nodded.

"I accept your offer to learn the science of witchcraft." you told her. "But ONLY on a trial run."

"That sounds fair enough." agreed your mother. "What do you suggest?"

"I will try living the life of a girl for one year." you said. "in that year, I will learn the science of witchcraft."

"Okay..." said your mother, not sure where you were going with your reasoning.

"If, within that year, I get to love witchcraft... you make the transformation permanent and erase all memory of me ever being John so I will not later miss it."

"If you don't like it?" asked your mother.

You paused. "You saved my life, mom. Let's just hope I love witchcraft."

"Okay, John." said your mother. "I will change you but because of your condition...."
