You turn around, and grin. Puzzled, Mel turns around and finds Hayley standing behind her, ready to grab her. She screams. "Hayley you scared me" Mel yells, to your and Hayley's laughter. "How was the year away?"
"Good, but I'm glad to be home" Hayley says. "Can you tell me what you did. I haven't been told anything" you say, hoping you get the answers you want. The big secrecy, Hayley being isolated, it doesn't make sense. For a whiile you thought you had something to do with it, since you heard mom occassionly say that John mustn't know, when she thought you wasn't around.
"Sorry John, I can't. You'll find out one day, but please don't ask me." Hayley wails. While you're glad that Hayley is home, things haven't changed, other than you having the feeling you're being excluded from something,; some big secret that mom, Hayley and now Mel is in on.
The next day, you get home from school before your sisters. Hayley has rejoined the cheerleaders, so she won't be around for a while, and Mel is doing something with Megan, so you have some time to try and discover this secret. You open Hayley's door, feeling guilty, since you feel like you're invading her privacy, even though you haven't done anything. Walking into her room, you spot a book and you realize its her diary.
