With all of those buttons, Eddie came to the conclusion that it must be some sort of universal remote. It looked a bit old, since it seemed to have no numbered buttons--just colors. Perhaps it was for some toy rather than a TV?
Regardless, he pocketed the remote and continued looking around the attic. Boxes were strewn across the ground, with random labels written on. First grade, old toys, some board games--everything in his and his sister's entire life seemed to be here. He cursed his mother for making him look for a stupid rat that she supposedly heard. It's no wonder he couldn't find the rodent: it had shelter from all the boxes lying around. Eddie knew the task was hopeless, so he took the next best thing to do--lie. There were probably tons of rats up here, anyway.
"Oh, mom, you should see this rat! The mouse trap it fell on cut it in half! You can see it's--"
"Please! Eddie! Just take it outside!"
Eddie smiled. His mother was deathly afraid of anything living that wasn't a human, and she wouldn't come near him if he had a dead one on hand. Quickly walking outside, he stood out there for a while. Even though he didn't do anything, his mother would probably waive him of his chores for today because of this event. After a few minutes, he walked up to his room and pulled out the remote he found earlier.
