Jumping straight into something like this without anywhere to start isn't easy, so I thought to put a couple ideas down to work with.
Scenario 1: There exists a group of Gardevoirs that pride themselves on being huge, unlike most others. Not a single member's weight is any less than half a ton, and they all actively work to get even larger. Although something happens between them to make their gaining more competitive, trying to outgrow all the others, making their growth far faster than it already was to begin with.
Scenario 2: Made up of Gardevoirs who have grown obese over time naturally due to their home environment, they have come to embrace their size, now taking part in sumo wrestling with each other as a pastime. The better they are, the more respect they receive from their peers. As such, they all actively try to get even fatter, as to try and get an advantage through a difference in sheer size.
