I tried to call out to her only I didn't hear my voice, I heard was a multiple of voices. It was like a crowd of people talking rather than one. Mom looked at me, still seemingly terrified but at least I got her attention. "I'm scared, mom." Softly, I said.
"You are not alone." Trembling, mom said. "I thought you had suddenly become some kind of monster... I was afraid for you, for myself..." She bowed her head. "What kind of mother am I..."
"You didn't run and you're still not running." Trying to be of comfort, I said. "I'd say you are a brave and caring mother."
Mom smiled at that, tears falling from her eyes. "Thank you." She sighed. "At times like this, I would turn to my cat to calm my nerves..."
I nodded, knowing that mom missed her cat, Jitters. I tried to speak more comfort to her but all that came out was a meow. I looked about, startled and found that everything was now huge... looking at myself, I found that I had become an exact copy of our old cat, Jitters. "How about that..." Surprised, I thought. "I can now change into animals."
Knowing mom still needed comforting, I leaped up onto her lap and began to purr at her while stroking my head against her chin. Mom's surprise slowly turned into a form of bemusement as she began to pet me. The sensation of being petted felt pretty good and I somehow wanted it to last. Before I knew it, I had fallen asleep in her lap. When I later woke up...
