You pop a candy in your mouth. "I wish you would."
"Fine." He hangs his head. "It is you."
Your head starts spinning. He can't be telling the truth, can he? Are you really a megalomaniac? He can't be lying, though; the candies don't lie.
Then you realize what truly happened - what must have happened. Your son came from the future to stop a megalomaniac. In order to do so, he brought his father - whom he knew to be the megalomaniac, in the future, but also must have known to be morally reliable in the past - magical candies that grant wishes. Somehow or other, the power got to your head; in preventing your evil, your son only assured it. Realizing this, you put one last candy in your mouth and make a wish.
"I wish for no more candy."

It's been twenty-two years. You and Kate Smith are happily married and hyphenated. You made it bigtime in business and bought a luxury condominium in Missouri. You have one son, Donovan, and two daughters, Agatha and Miranda. (You and she have a thing for odd names.) Donovan is a model student - all A's, community service, athletic, school spirit, near-perfect attendance. Agatha is a bit of a geek, but she writes great fiction. Miranda, who's only three, is just learning to walk.
You go upstairs to the master suite you share with Kate and see a box of chocolates lying on your bed. A note is attached.
"You know the deal. Thanks for not going evil. Your friend, who is secretly a wizard."
