Chapter #5Spinning the Wheel by: kbob "Come again?" Ethan blinked.
"You a gambling horse?" Glenn grinned cheekily, resting a hand on his hip as he spun the device around his finger.
Chuckling, the raccoon padded over so he was standing next to his friend, holding up the Size Modulator. "See these things here?" he said, pointing to a series of dials around the barrel of the device. Most of the dials had the numbers 0-9 stamped around their circumference, with a final flip-switch that alternated between a division and a multiplication sign. "Give 'em a spin and then blast the device. Round and round they go, where they stop, nobody knows. You could end up a mile-high colossus or an inch-tall insect. Or, you know, something in between,"
Ethan gritted his teeth in a half-grin, rocking his head back and forth in hesitation and folding his arms across his broad chest. "I dunno, man. Seems a bit... risky, ya know?" he said. "Why don't we play it safe this first time around? You know, supersize ourselves a bit, stomp around awhile, call it a day. Fun had by all,"
"C'mon Ethan! First rule of business is to take risks!" Glenn chided. "You were so gung-ho about this half an hour ago you wanted to skip a plane ride to get started, and now you're all 'safety first'? C'mon. Live large a little,"
The stallion shook his head agains, smiling a little. "Oh, what the hell. You always were the silver-tongued one. Sure. Let's do this,"
"There you go," Glenn grinned, smacking Ethan on the ass as he strode buoyantly away. "Let's go out here. Don't want to go blowing the roof off this place just yet,"
Ethan followed Glenn outside of the warehouse and out to a large stretch of open pavement. Standing in the middle of de facto courtyard between the various warehouses, Glenn spun around so that he was facing Ethan, a few feet away.
"Ladies first," the raccoon grinned.
"Huh? Wait--" Ethan said.
But before the stallion had a chance to get a word in edgewise, the raccoon gave the dials a generous spin and blasted him squarely in the chest. Ethan felt... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
