Intern Troubles

"What the fuck is this?" Glenn spat, slamming down the paper takeaway cup on Ike's desk.

"Er, coffee?" the red-and-gold scaled dragon took a wild guess.

"Shit terrible coffee," the raccoon corrected. "Get me a different one. Earm coffee, if possible. Venti americano, no room,"

"But I just got that one for you!" Ike pointed out. "I really need to finish this report for Ruby. I'll nuke it for you, if you like. Warm it up again,"

"If by 'nuke' you mean 'do your job and get a fucking new one', then absolutely," Glenn fumed. "What are we paying you to do here, anyway?"

"It's an unpaid internship," Ike reminded him for the umpteenth time.

"And this is why we don't pay you?" Glenn was already stalking away. "Go on. Fly to the cafe if it'll get you there faster,"

"Absolutely,"

Ike rolled his eyes as soon as he was sure the raccoon had left the room. Glenn loved that poor excuse for a joke, despite the fact that Ike, like most other dragons, had no wings. He wasn't exactly sure where that came from. Most dragons didn't burn down villages or kidnap princesses, either. Fucking racists.

Grumbling loudly, Ike pushed back from his desk and pulled on his coat. As he trudged down the hall, hands stuffed into pockets, Ruby poked her head around the door of her office.

"You have that report done yet?" the vixen asked.

"Sorry, no. I'll have it--it'll be--soon," Ike mumbled, blushing violently. Conversations of this sort rarely went well for Ike, partially because he hated disappointing his supervisor, but also because he had something of a crush on her. "I need to step out. Just for a moment,"

"Well, okay," Ruby said. "But we need that by the 14.30 meeting, you know,"

Shuffling away, Ike headed towards the exit of the research and development wing. There was no way in hell all of this abuse was worth the measly five research credits he was getting at his university. Total bullshit.

As he neared the double doors, Ike noticed that the door to storage was slightly ajar. Curious, the red-gold drake peered around the door. He'd never been allowed in there before, though he'd had to work on the administrative paperwork for much of it.

Double-checking to make sure the hallway was still vacant, Ike slipped into the room, closing the door behind him. His footsteps echoing off the steel-tiled floor, Ike wandered around the space, staring at the various strange objects held in cases.

A small silver gunlike device resting on a pedestal towards the back of the room caught Ike's eye. He strode towards it, a grin flicking across his face. Oh, he knew exactly what this was. Picking it up, Ike weighed it in his hand. This was perfect: for the first time since he'd started this internship, maybe there was a silver lining. Hurriedly, Ike stuffed the device into his coat pocket and rushed out the doors. Plans for what to do were already forming in his mind. Ike wanted to...
