Steven decided to leave the scene. He did not want to disturb the learning process of the new recruits. He could always play with them later. He was not going to put up to Liz's lengthy explanation for the second time through. So he floated up and away, hovering over the store, as he decided which co-worker he should play with first.
Something else caught his eyes. An asian couple was standing by the entrance and the male seemed to be engaged in a talk with Mona. ''My girlfriend here wants a job, can we see the manager please?'', the male spoke confidently while the female just nodded. They must have been around 19 or 18. He wore a short sleeved shirt with a square pattern and dark blue jeans, with black rimmed glasses and sporting a short modern hairstyle. There was a backpack inches away from his feet, which belong to his girlfriend. The girl looked like she had just got home from university, dressed in plain T-shirt and unzipped denim jacket with matching tight jeans.
''Uh, sorry, can't do that.'', Mona frowned, a bit startled by the cheek.
''Please?'', the boy looked intently at Mona.
Then the strangest thing happened, as if in a trance, Mona could not peel her eyes away for a split second. No one would have thought anything was wrong. She then blinked. ''Oh, of course, follow me.''
''You see babe, everything's gonna be okay, cause I'm here.'', the male winked as he whispered. An action which then resulted in him receiving a playful, although rather painful jab.
The boy winced as the three made their way upstairs. Everyone was busy and as they saw that Mona was leading the two strangers, they assumed everything was okay.
Steven was intrigued by what he saw and decided to follow them to Elizabeth's office. ''There we are.'', Mona said cheerfully.
''Thank you.'', the couple said in unison. Mona then walked downstairs, as she did so...she felt a bit dizzy, but then resumed her descent as though nothing had happened.
''Come in!" Elizabeth heard some knocking and let whoever her guest was to come in. She was rather surprised to see two strangers walking in.
''Uh, hi I'm Ken,'' the boy introduced himself, ''And she's Celine. We saw your ads and you were looking for a part time junior accountant?''
Celine nodded and said, ''I took accounting in my Higher Education studies.''
''Do you have the application form and CV with you hun?'' Elizabeth asked, keeping her cool despite her unexpected guests.
Ken took out a pile of papers from the backpack and handed them to Elizabeth, who skimmed through all of them quickly before putting in to a pile on her desk. ''Just leave them here and we'll contact you later.''
''Can't you decide now?'', Ken asked.
''Sorry, but she needs to have an interview first hun.'' Elizabeth replied as matter of factly.
''Are you sure?'', Ken insisted, as he stared straight to Elizabeth.
Again, Elizabeth seemed to have entered a split second trance. Before long, she handed out a form. ''I guess I can, she looks good enough anyway. Just fill out your details in here hun and you can start working tomorrow.'' Elizabeth smiled as she handed a pen as well. Ken just smiled.
Celine took the seat in front of Elizabeth's desk and the two of them engaged in a cheerful conversation, while Ken retreated to the couch further away from the desk with the backpack, looking pleased with himself.
Steven felt there was something weird about the events that were unfolding before his eyes...
