Ashley waited until the end of the school day to implement her plan. She sat in the bleachers to wait for Jeff. Football practice, she decided, would be the perfect place to start.
Jeff and his teammates jog out to the field.
Ashley points her finger at Jeff and says, "Jeff runs like a girl."
Suddenly the long, confident strides of Jeff shortens. His wrists drift up to his chest. His hips wiggle from side to side.
"Jeff, stop screwing around and get over here," yells Coach Aubers.
Confused, Jeff is the last one to arrivre at the huddle.
Ashley giggles as she watches the practice proceed. She loved the frustation on Jeff's face as he tried to keep up with his teammates. She stifles a laugh as he is knocked down again and again.
"I don't know what wrong with you today. Just throw the ball, " the coach says as he tosses the football to Jeff.
Ashley points her finger and says, "Jeff throws like a girl."
Confidently, Jeff holds the football and draws back his arm to throw the football downfield. But his grip loosens and the football drops out of his hand.
Picking it up, Jeff holds the football like a hot bowl of soup. He holds the football behind his head and stiffly tosses it as he thrusts his body forward. The football dribbles a foot in front of him.
Ashley watches as the coach's face turns red.
"Coach Aubers thinks Jeff is injured," Ashley says as she points her finger. She doesn't want Jeff to be kicked out of practice because she is enjoying this too much.
As Coach Aubers closes in on Jeff, his face shifts from anger to concern.
"Are you okay, son? You took quite a hit back there. Do you need a break?" Aubers asks.
"No, I'm fine<" Jeff stammers.
"Jeff talks like a girl," Ashley commands as she points her finger at him.
"Oh shucky darn," Jeff says in a high-pitched delicate voice. "Like, I'm just a little shaken up".
"That's it! Go to the nurse. Something is wrong with you," the coach orders.
