If what you're hearing is true, everyone here is in the same boat you are; 'placed' into unfamiliar lives by the mad scientists at KARC and their crazy placement test. They probably want to get back to normal as much as you do, and could turn out to be valuable allies. Fran certainly seemed nice enough. Thus decided, you slip out of your room and make your way down the hall back to the living room, voices growing louder as you approach.
“...I'm just saying I'm glad I'm not the one stuck as McSlut.”
“Annie, don't call her that! Her name is Denise.” says Fran.
“Oh, come on,” says Vera. “She's obviously supposed to be the house slut. Just look at her! And have you seen her wardrobe? Frankly, as a house I say we were better off without her. Classier.”
“You're just jealous because she wears a bigger bra than you,” says Annie.
“I am not jealous!” huffs Vera. “And besides, from the sound of it 'she' shouldn't be wearing a bra at all.”
“Vera!” says Fran sternly. “You know you can't say things like that. No talking about before. Denise is one of our sisters now, and that's all there is to it. 'We are who we are, not who we were.' Right? Right?”
There's an awkward pause.
“Yeah, fine, whatever,” sighs Vera. “No talk about before. Got it.”
There's a long silence.
“You kinda have a point, though,” says Annie. “I mean we're all sort of like, stereotypes, right? And she is kind of slutty.”
It is at this point that you round the corner, coughing noisily to announcer your presence. Realizing you must have overheard them, Annie looks embarrassed. Vera doesn't.
“Welcome!” says Fran, glaring at the others. “Everyone, Let's give a warm welcome to our newest sister, Denise McLain. She's a freshman, and majoring in communications; isn't that right Denise?”
“Figures that's what you'd 'study,'” scoffs Vera.
“Uh, yeah,” you mutter, uncomfortable. It's not like they let you chose your own major.
“So, uh, listen!” chimes Annie. “A bunch of us were going to head over to Pi Iota Gamma for their big start of term party. You should come with us! It'll be a blast; not to mention a great way to introduce you to campus!”
Vera rolls her eyes. Fran gives her a stern look.
“Yeah, fine, whatever,” says Vera. “Get changed, sis. Woo.”
