Claire groaned. She had been stuck traveling through the woods for days since her mom and best friend were both turned into what she could only describe as Violet Beauregarde-like blueberry. She and Blaire had barely made it out, as both infected girls were spraying juice all over. She glanced back. There Blaire was, fiddling with her iPhone as she listened to music in one ear, which was typical for her. While Claire had grown up constantly working, Blaire was the techno geek of the family, always playing with the family computer or on her Xbox.
"C'mon Blaire! We gotta keep moving. Otherwise, we might end up...." Claire's voice trailed off, her mind horrified at what might happen if either of them were caught.
Blaire nodded her head absent mindedly as she continued walking, her head lowered as she continued to play on her phone. Claire shrugged as she continued walking. She had heard of rumors about an airport that was still open and under Military protection to get as many uninfected out as possible.
Of course, there were other rumors that the airport had been hit hard with infected and there wasn't anyone left there who wasn't infected. But these rumors came more from the mentally deranged. Still, Claire had to admit, it felt like someone or something was watching them through the trees. But with the sun down and the moon only a quarter-full, she couldn't make out the difference between a bush and a person. But as she came over a hill, she could make out the lights coming through the windows as a Boeing 747 lifted off the runway.
"YES!" She silently cheered, happy to escape from the grimy world she had been stuck in. Blaire stopped a few feet behind her after seeing her sister pump up her fists in victory, she hadn't done that in a while.
"Claire, just be careful. I got a bad feeling about this." Blaire whispered, tugging on her sister's shirt.
Claire nodded solemnly. Blaire had saved her life back when her mom first was infected. She learned to trust Blaire's instincts. But as she peered down to the Airport, Claire noticed...
