"Can we slow down please? My feet hurt." Blaire whined, trying to keep pace with my sister.
"Blaire, you know we have to make it as close to the airport as possible. Its getting dark and the Military might close shop soon." Claire said, her eyes watching the trees. Being by yourself in a forest was dangerous, even with your sister. But with the virus spreading and personally watching as her friend June slowly turned into a blueberry and she couldn't help her....no. No matter what happened to her, she would NOT let anything like that happen to Blaire.
"I know but...." Blaire started.
"Alright, look. All we have to do is make it up this hill then we'll set up camp. 'Kay?" Claire asked, turning to face her sister.
"That works." Blaire said, giving her sister a big smile. Blaire hadn't been very athletic, instead playing games like Halo or Battlefield with her friends. Her short height always held her back because she couldn't keep up with her taller classmates. So when Claire always asked her to run until they got to an old house, or sprint to the nearest field, Blaire assumed she was merely picking on her. But after seeing June being infected, Blaire had a renewed respect for her sister.
As the two drew nearer to the hill top, the sun was setting and the night was falling in all around them. Blaire couldn't help but feel like they were being watched. Claire had disregarded Blaire's paranoia but silently admitted to it. It almost felt like something was here and had eyes, and it was hungry. With a quick decision, the sisters set camp at the base of the hill and, after a few hours, fell asleep.
